The Office of the Fire Marshal and its current staff of approximately 20 employees, with Regional Offices throughout the province, provide a wide range of functions relating to fire inspections, plans review, fire investigations & K-9 services, fire prevention, and support for the fire service and community leaders. The OFM is also responsible for the delivery of all firefighter training in the province.

What you will do
Reporting to the Chief Provincial Fire Investigator, the successful candidate(s) will be responsible for performing/assisting with fire investigations; assisting in the coordination/delivery of fire prevention programs; providing advice and/or assistance to the local fire services and other community stakeholders and coordinating and administering various elements of the Fire Prevention Act. In addition to representing the Fire Marshal by participating in and providing advice and recommendations at regular Regional Fire Fighter Association meetings, the successful candidate will be required to offer presentations on related topics to various organizations and stakeholder groups.

Your attitude, skills and interests are just as important as your area of study. We are looking for diverse backgrounds that bring a combination of the following:

Need to have:

  • NBFIT (NB Fire Investigation Training) level II or higher qualifications such as NFPA 1033 certification, or a related formal fire investigation training.
  • Minimum 3 years related work experience with fire prevention and fire protection principals
  • Successful candidates will be required to undergo a criminal history clearance and security clearance check

An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.

Written and spoken competence in English and spoken competence in French is required. Please state your language capability.

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS: The following operational requirement(s) is also required:

  • Considerable travel throughout a particular region and other parts of the province
  • A valid minimum class 5 driver's license is required

Nice to Have:

  • NFPA 1072 - HazMat Technician certification
  • Supervisory experience

Wage
$ 2,341.00 - $ 2,948.00 Biweekly
