THE OPPORTUNITY
The Senior Instructional Designer (SID) takes a leadership role in advocating for and creating an institutional environment supportive of teaching and learning excellence. This position reports to the Manager, Learning Design and Development/Educator Development.
SIDs collaborate closely with faculty and academic units to lead the development of courses and programs across all approved delivery modes. Leveraging their extensive expertise, they provide strategic guidance and leadership in applying effective pedagogical practices grounded in teaching and learning theories and principles, while supporting the integration of innovative technologies to create high-quality courses, programs, and projects.
SIDS provide consultative services to the academic community to identify internal projects or strategic initiatives (i.e. new course or program, teaching resource, professional development, technology implementation or training) to enhance and support teaching and learning at Memorial. They are involved in scholarly research to improve their practice and make an active contribution to the teaching and learning experience of instructors and students at Memorial, provincially, nationally and internationally.
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE
Experience (3-5 years) in course development in the university sector as an educator or instructional designer; successful completion of a Master's degree in Adult Education, Educational Technology, or related field is required; equivalent combination of experience and training may be considered. Experience teaching in higher education is required for this position. Extensive knowledge of theory and best practices in adult learning and for a variety of delivery methods. Demonstrated ability to consult with stakeholders to assess program needs, conduct workshops, and be able to prepare comprehensive reports, proposals and presentation materials for specific target audiences. Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication, conflict management and facilitation skills to be able to work with colleagues at different levels within the academic community.
SALARY $74,288 - $96,297 per annum (Management & Professional)
