SCHEDULE: Day, Evening, Night, Weekend, On Call, Rotation, 8 and 12-hour shifts. Work schedule may be changed to meet operational needs.

JOB SUMMARY

The incumbent is responsible for the continuing education and specialized orientation of nursing staff in their sector. Using an evidence-based approach, the incumbent also participates in the drafting and updating of policies, procedures and protocols as well as in the implementation of best practices. They assist the nurse manager in coordinating, delivering and evaluating care on the unit. They serve as a clinical leader and facilitate change within the system, based on each individual's clinical specialty, among health care staff, the multidisciplinary team and partners. They serve as a resource person for the nursing staff in managing complex clinical cases. The ensure the development and maintenance of quality care standards. They assist with staff management and department administration and support the nurse manager in their administrative duties. They also perform any other related duties as required by the department.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing;
  • Registration with the Nurses Association of New Brunswick;
  • Valid Basic Life Support (BLS) certificate and maintenance of certification;
  • Commitment to become a member of the New Brunswick Emergency Nurses Association (NBENA);
  • Certificates in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) or a commitment to obtain these certifications within one year of starting the position and to maintain certification;
  • Certificate in Non-Violent Crisis Intervention or a commitment to obtain this certification within six months of starting the position;
  • Canadian Nurses Association certification appropriate to the specialty of the position in question or completion of this certification within two years;
  • At least five years' experience in emergency care within the last eight years;
  • Management experience acquired within the last two years;
  • Certificate in management (health services, human resources or business) and/or equivalent management certification/experience considered an asset;
  • Practical computer skills;
  • Proven leadership skills;
  • Strong interest in furthering own knowledge;
  • Proven ability to organize and manage assigned workload;
  • Proven communication skills and strong interpersonal skills;
  • Problem-solving, time management and conflict resolution skills;
  • Initiative, good judgment, and decision-making skills;
  • Proven ability to work in a dynamic and unpredictable work environment;
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team;
  • Physical ability to perform assigned work;
  • Good work history (performance and attendance);
  • Adherence to professional ethics principles, Vitalité Health Network's management philosophy and organizational values;
  • Adherence to Vitalité Health Network's confidentiality rules.
