The Role
The Commercial Lending Paralegal will support lawyers on a wide range of commercial real estate, secured lending, real estate development, and commercial leasing matters. This role involves preparing, reviewing, and managing documentation for complex transactions, completing Land Title and Personal Property Registry filings, and overseeing real estate files from open to close. The successful candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to work independently in a fast-paced, team-based environment.
Responsibilities
- Manage all Land Title Office and Personal Property Registry registrations and filings.
- Prepare, review, and format legal documents relating to commercial real estate and secured lending transactions.
- Handle real estate files from start to finish, including file openings and closings.
- Review refinancing documents, mortgages, and sale/purchase agreements.
- Draft transaction-related documents including trust letters, statements of adjustments, and general correspondence.
- Coordinate tax searches, title insurance orders, and registry submissions.
- Support real estate development work such as air space parcel creation and disclosure statement filings.
- Maintain efficient and accurate physical and electronic filing systems.
- Perform administrative tasks including billing, file maintenance, and tracking outstanding accounts.
- Collaborate with lawyers, paralegals, and support staff while managing tasks with minimal supervision.
Requirements
- Completion of a recognized Legal Assistant or Paralegal program (or equivalent experience).
- Minimum 5 years of experience in commercial lending and real estate transactions within a law firm setting.
- Advanced proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and document management software.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong proofreading abilities, including accuracy in spelling, grammar, and formatting.
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
- Client-focused mindset with a commitment to providing exceptional service to internal and external stakeholders.
