Clean Arctic Shipping Initiative

(Contractual Position to August 31, 2029; Possibility of Extension)

BACKGROUND

The Clean Arctic Shipping Initiative (CASI) is a unique partnership co-led and co-developed by Memorial University and Inuit Circumpolar Council (ICC) Canada. The Initiative responds to the rapid increase in Arctic shipping and its associated environmental and socio-economic impacts on Arctic communities, while supporting Inuit priorities for safe, sustainable, and cost-effective resupply. Funded through the Canada First Research Excellence Fund (CFREF), CASI brings together Inuit communities, academic institutions, government, and industry partners to position Canada and Inuit as global leaders in Arctic shipping research, governance, and innovation.

DUTIES

Reporting to the Operations Manager, the Manager, Knowledge Mobilization and Inclusive Engagement, will be responsible for developing and implementing the Reconciliation, Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, and Anti- Racism (REDI-AR) Action Plan and knowledge mobilization and translation activities of the Initiative. Duties include coordinating and leading EDI activities and initiatives throughout the project lifecycle; monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of EDI initiatives, making adjustments as necessary; preparing annual progress reports for the Governance Board, detailing progress against targets and comparing baseline data; capturing and reporting qualitative measures, including annual surveys of theme leads, researchers, and exit surveys of HQP; reviewing publications for compliance with the Partnership Agreement; identifying Inuit information and data and working with ICC to ensure Inuit data and information follow the data management plan; and performing other related duties as required. The incumbent will work with research teams to implement the Inuit engagement plan and ensure knowledge outcomes are accessible to all partners of the Initiative.

QUALIFICATIONS

Experience (3-5 years) in research communication, knowledge mobilization and translation, and community or stakeholder engagement; completion of a bachelor's degree with coursework towards a master's degree in a relevant field (e.g., Social Sciences, Human Resources, Engineering, Environmental Studies, Organizational Development, or a related discipline) is required; or an equivalent combination of experience and training may be considered. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience in developing and implementing REDI-AR initiatives and policies and excellent written and verbal communication skills, the ability to translate complex technical information into plain language, and strong interpersonal and stakeholder engagement skills. Additional certification or training in REDI-AR, or related areas is highly desirable. Experience in REDI-AR roles within academic or research settings, as well as experience working with Indigenous communities and an understanding of Indigenous cultural diversity and issues, with specific experience working with Inuit, will be considered assets.

SALARY $67,414 - $91,929 per annum (Management and Professional)
