BUILDING FACILITIES TECHNICIAN (BAND LEVEL 3)

Labrador Campus

(Contractual Position to January 19, 2027; Possibility of Extension)

(Part-Time; 23 Hours per Week)

This position is based in Happy Valley-Goose Bay, Labrador

BACKGROUND

The Labrador Campus is the newest campus of Memorial University, established in January 2022. Home to the School of Arctic and Subarctic Studies and the Pye Centre for Northern Boreal Food Systems, the Labrador Campus is a vibrant centre for Northern-focused, Northern-inspired, and Northern-led research, education, and community partnerships. As part of this exciting and historic transformation, the Labrador Campus is developing undergraduate, graduate, and post-graduate degrees, diplomas, certificates, and professional development learning opportunities, expanding its research activities; and developing new infrastructure. The campus is currently hiring a Building Facilities Technician to support operations related to buildings, fleet, and safety.

DUTIES

The Building Facilities Technician will be responsible for the performance of building operational work (such as caretaking, coordinating access and security, maintenance and monitoring, storage and warehousing) related to the Labrador Campus buildings and facilities. Duties include, but are not limited to, conducting regular and special checks of facilities throughout the building, including classrooms, entrances and exits, and the library; adjusting and reporting situations that could lead to issues or loss; admitting staff, students, and users to buildings and verifying their eligible access; locking, closing, and securing buildings at night; transporting Labrador Campus vehicles to various locations; removing snow and ice from vehicles and stairs; moving and rearranging furniture to set up rooms for use; transporting materials; coordinating maintenance work with contractors; and performing other related duties as required. This position requires occasional evening work.

QUALIFICATIONS

Experience (1-3) years in the performance of building and/or caretaker work and/or experience in a vocational trades environment; graduation from high school is required; or an equivalent combination of experience and training may be considered. Experience with building security, access, and maintenance; demonstrated strong communication skills; and the ability to use Microsoft Office (particularly email) are essential. Candidates must possess a valid Class 5 driver's license issued by the Province of Newfoundland and Labrador. The successful candidate will be required to provide a satisfactory Certificate of Conduct.

SALARY $25.85 - $30.32 per hour (CUPE Local 1615)

Plus applicable Northern Allowance
