About the Opportunity

A well-established Canadian equipment rental and construction services organization to recruit a Certified Small Engine Mechanic for their Brampton operation.

This is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on mechanic who enjoys diagnosing, repairing, testing, and maintaining a variety of small engines, tools, and rental equipment. The successful candidate will help keep equipment safe, reliable, and ready for customers and job sites.

About the Role

As a Certified Small Engine Mechanic, you will be responsible for inspecting, testing, diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining small-engine rental equipment and customer-owned tools. You will work closely with service, branch, parts, and operations teams to support equipment uptime, safe repairs, and timely service delivery.

This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys variety, takes pride in quality workmanship, and wants to grow in a stable equipment service environment.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Test, diagnose, and repair defective small engines on rental equipment.
  • Diagnose, service, and maintain rental fleet equipment.
  • Diagnose and repair customer-owned tools and equipment.
  • Maintain and service equipment according to manufacturer specifications.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on both fleet and customer equipment.
  • Service small-engine-related equipment, tools, and attachments.
  • Inspect and test 2-stroke and 4-stroke gas engines.
  • Work on seasonal equipment including lawnmowers, trimmers, chainsaws, pumps, compactors, and small generators.
  • Repair and maintain electric, battery-powered, and pneumatic tools.
  • Load and unload customer rental equipment when required.
  • Explain safe operating instructions to customers as needed.
  • Support branch operations by performing additional duties as assigned.
  • Work cross-functionally with service, parts, operations, and branch teams.
  • Maintain the yard and work areas in a clean, safe, and organized condition.
  • Follow all health, safety, and environmental procedures.
  • Support apprentices or junior team members when required.

What We're Looking For

  • 3+ years of hands-on experience as a Small Engine Mechanic, Small Engine Technician, Power Equipment Technician, or similar role.
  • Strong troubleshooting, diagnostic, testing, and repair skills.
  • Experience working on 2-stroke and 4-stroke gas engines.
  • Experience with small electrical tools, electric tools, battery-powered tools, and pneumatic tools.
  • Ability to inspect, test, diagnose, and repair a range of small engines and tools.
  • Experience with seasonal equipment such as lawnmowers, trimmers, chainsaws, pumps, compactors, and small generators.
  • Customer-focused communication skills and a professional approach.
  • Ability to work independently with strong time management and organization.
  • Ability to work effectively within a team environment.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs as required.
  • Strong commitment to safe work practices and environmental responsibility.
  • Ownership of personal tools required for the role.

Certifications Considered

The following certifications, licenses, or training would be considered assets:

  • 421A certification.
  • 310T certification.
  • 310S certification.
  • 310G certification.
  • MSTE Small Engines Technician Certificate.
  • Manufacturer certificates or factory training.
  • Technical training related to small engines, power equipment, construction equipment, automotive, truck, or compact equipment.

Nice to Have

  • Interest in completing the Small Engines Technician Certificate, MSTE.
  • Hydraulic system knowledge.
  • Experience with compact equipment, small construction equipment, or rental equipment.
  • Experience with construction heaters, generators, pumps, compaction equipment, and related tools.
  • Ability to train apprentices or junior mechanics.
  • Technical understanding of construction or heavy equipment would be considered an asset.
  • Flexibility to support on-call schedules or changing business demands.
