Job Title: Field Service Technician Lead (Class B Gas Ticket Required)
Location: British Columbia, Canada
Salary: $40.00/hour
Reports to: Field Service Leader
Start Date: TBA
Important Hiring Note (May Group - Travel Team Only)
We are currently only hiring for the May intake Travel Team. Candidates must be fully committed to a rotational, travel-based role from June to September.
During this peak project period (June-September), this role is primarily travel-based, supporting multiple project locations across British Columbia.
Outside of the peak travel months, employees will primarily work within their home region or assigned local area projects.
Travel Structure & Expectations (Critical for Candidates)
  • Work operates on a rotational schedule of 14 days on / 4 days off
  • Candidates should expect to complete this rotation 1-2 times per month
  • In practical terms, within a 60-day period, employees may:
    • Work up to 42 days on rotation
    • Receive approximately 12 days off
    • Spend approximately 6 days working locally (non-travel assignments)
  • The majority of time from June to September will be spent travelling and working across assigned BC locations
  • Work is conducted in a Metercor company vehicle
Travel Benefits
  • All accommodation (hotel stays) provided and paid for
  • $80/day travel allowance provided during travel rotations
Job Summary
We are currently seeking a skilled and motivated Field Service Technician Lead to join our team in British Columbia. This leadership-focused role requires a Class B Gas Ticket and involves performing gas meter installations while also supporting and occasionally covering for Field Service Leaders. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical capabilities, leadership experience, and a commitment to safety and customer satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities
Installation & Technical Work
  • Install gas meters at residential and small commercial properties
  • Conduct safety inspections and leak tests following installations
  • Ensure all work complies with current gas utility codes, standards, and safety regulations
Leadership Support
  • Assist Field Service Leaders with daily coordination of field technicians
  • Act as the point of contact in the Field Service Leader's absence
  • Provide on-site guidance and mentorship to junior technicians
  • Help monitor crew productivity, safety compliance, and job quality
Safety & Compliance
  • Uphold and promote all safety protocols and procedures
  • Participate in safety meetings and contribute to ongoing risk assessments
  • Ensure proper use of PPE and adherence to safety standards in the field
Customer Interaction
  • Professionally interact with customers during installations
  • Explain installation processes and respond to customer inquiries
  • Provide solutions to on-site concerns or escalate when appropriate
Documentation & Reporting
  • Accurately document installation activities and job status using handheld devices
  • Submit reports and complete digital work orders
  • Maintain accurate records of tools, equipment, and materials
Qualifications
Education & Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in gas meter installation or related field
  • Prior leadership or team lead experience is an asset
Skills & Competencies
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and technical troubleshooting ability
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Confident decision-maker with leadership potential
  • Ability to work independently and support a team
  • Comfortable using digital tools and handheld devices for reporting
Working Conditions
Environment
  • Work is performed outdoors in various weather conditions
  • Exposure to potentially hazardous conditions (e.g., gas leaks, confined spaces)
  • Regular use of hand tools and physical labour throughout shifts
  • Work involves routine physical activity over extended periods
  • Extensive travel within British Columbia required during peak season, including overnight stays
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift and carry equipment and materials up to 50 lbs
  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, and kneeling
  • Use of PPE, including fitted face masks when required
Certifications & Licenses
  • Class B Gas Ticket - Required
  • Valid Class 5 driver's license and clean abstract
  • Criminal background check required
Training Program
  • Paid 2-week training program
  • Includes safety protocols, technical skills, and customer service training
  • Hands-on mentorship with experienced team leaders
