Industry Sector: A professional services and talent-solutions organisation operating across Canada—serving mid-market and enterprise clients with finance, HR, and advisory services. The finance function is centralizing tax compliance, planning and reporting to support growth and regulatory rigour.

About the Opportunity

We are hiring a Tax Manager based in Toronto to lead corporate tax compliance, tax provisioning, and tax planning for Canadian operations in a hybrid work model. This role will partner closely with Finance leadership, external advisors and the CRA to drive timely filings, minimize tax risk, and implement scalable tax processes and automation.

Role Responsibilities
  • Lead preparation, review and timely filing of Canadian corporate tax returns (T2) and related provincial filings; manage tax instalment planning and year-end tax compliance.
  • Own tax provision and deferred tax calculations under Canadian GAAP (IFRS/ASPE), including quarter-end and year-end reconciliations and disclosures.
  • Manage indirect tax (GST/HST) and payroll tax compliance, and support multi-jurisdictional or cross-border tax matters as required.
  • Provide technical tax research and implement tax planning strategies to optimize after-tax results and address complex tax issues.
  • Act as primary liaison with external tax advisors and the Canada Revenue Agency—coordinate audits, respond to assessments, and resolve tax controversies.
  • Coach and mentor junior tax staff, drive process improvements and automation of tax workflows and reporting (tax software and Excel-based tools).
Skills Qualifications

Must-Have

  • CPA designation (CPA Canada) with 5+ years of progressive Canadian corporate tax experience, including T2 and GST/HST compliance.
  • Strong working knowledge of Canadian federal provincial tax legislation and experience preparing tax provisions (deferred tax).
  • Hands-on experience with tax and accounting systems (NetSuite, Oracle, QuickBooks or equivalent) and tax software (TaxCycle, Cantax or similar).
  • Proven ability to liaise with the CRA, manage assessments and coordinate external advisors; strong technical tax research skills.
  • Excellent Excel skills, attention to detail, and strong written/verbal communication for stakeholder engagement.

Preferred

  • Experience with IFRS/ASPE tax accounting nuances, multi-jurisdictional filings or cross-border tax exposure (US/other).
  • Prior people-management experience and familiarity with process automation tools (Power Query, Alteryx, RPA) to scale tax operations.
Benefits Culture Highlights
  • Hybrid work model (Toronto office + remote flexibility), competitive compensation and performance bonus potential.
  • Support for professional development (CPA study leave, training) within a collaborative, growth-oriented finance team.
  • Comprehensive benefits including health dental, RRSP matching and paid time off.
