Full job description

Basic Function:

The Site Superintendent oversees all aspects of construction site operations, ensuring work progresses

efficiently, safely, and in accordance with project plans and quality standards. They collaborate closely with

project managers, coordinate with stakeholders, and manage resources effectively to deliver projects on time,

within budget, and to the satisfaction of clients. Additionally, they are responsible for enforcing safety protocols,

problem-solving, and maintaining thorough documentation throughout the project.

Required Qualifications

Education:

  • A high school diploma or equivalent.

  • BCIT Technologist diploma or trade school certification is considered an asset.

  • Equivalent experience in construction and field management may also be considered.

Experience

  • 7+ years' experience in the construction industry.

  • 2+ years' experience as a site superintendent.

  • Experience managing a small team (8-12ppl).

  • Demonstrated history of on-time and on-budget construction.

Skills

  • Advanced knowledge of construction plans, building layouts, etc.

  • Advanced knowledge of standard construction documentation (contracts, RFIs, site instructions, change

orders).

  • Advanced time management skills and ability to meet tight deadlines.

  • Advanced organizational and communication skills.

  • Advanced understanding of WorkSafe BC regulations.

  • Advanced ability to problem-solve and mediate conflict.

  • Intermediate knowledge of computer software including Microsoft Windows, Office, and other

applications.

Duties

Construction

  • Oversees daily site operations, supervising subcontractors, labourers, and on-site personnel to ensure

work progresses according to plan and meets quality standards.

  • Works closely with the project manager to develop and execute detailed project plans, including

schedules, budgets, and resource allocation, ensuring projects stay on time and within budget.

  • Enforces safety protocols, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations to maintain a safe work

environment for all on-site personnel (e.g., work-alone checks, safety orientations, etc.).

  • Monitors construction activities to ensure work meets project specifications and industry standards,

conducting inspections and addressing issues promptly.

  • Manages project resources, including materials, equipment, and labour, to optimize efficiency and

minimize waste while adhering to schedules and budgets.

  • Provides regular progress updates to the project manager and field manager via reports, meetings,

and verbal communication.

  • Assists the project manager in coordinating with project stakeholders to address design changes,

resolve conflicts, and meet project requirements.

  • Identifies and addresses challenges during construction projects with effective problem-solving skills.

  • Builds positive client relationships by addressing concerns and exceeding expectations throughout the

construction process.

  • Maintains accurate project records, including contracts, change orders, RFIs, and other

correspondence.

  • Monitors project expenses and identifies opportunities for cost savings to ensure projects stay within

budgetary constraints.

  • Facilitates project closeout procedures, ensuring all contractual obligations are met and documentation

is complete.

  • Engages in ongoing professional development initiatives to enhance skills and knowledge, contributing

to continuous improvement efforts within the organization.

Duties

Human Resources:

  • Assists in the recruitment and onboarding process for new employees, where necessary.

  • Prepares, modifies, and delivers job descriptions and performance evaluations to direct reports.

  • Sets clear and realistic expectations with direct reports through one-on-one meetings, performance

evaluations, job descriptions presentations, and effective feedback.

  • Engages in conflict resolution, follows the disciplinary process, and works with managers, staff, and clients to resolve issues.

  • Holds regularly scheduled, rarely missed 1:1s with all direct reports.

General:

  • Contributes to a culture of team building and continuous improvement.

  • Creates and updates process flows, procedures, checklists, and other documentation.

  • Attends regular meetings, daily huddles, and other meetings as required.

  • Follows policies and procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook.

  • Tracks time accurately.
