Naomi Society is seeking a compassionate and skilled Support Worker to provide trauma‑informed services to women, children, and all genders who have experienced domestic, family, intimate partner, or sexual violence. In this critical front‑line role, you will offer support, crisis intervention, safety planning, advocacy, and community outreach while working collaboratively with staff and community partners to ensure clients receive the resources and support they need. Responsibilities

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Support Worker provides both direct and indirect services to women, adolescents, and children who have been exposed to domestic, family, intimate partner, and sexual violence. The role includes crisis intervention, safety planning, resource navigation, advocacy, community outreach, and educational programming.

The Support Worker has three central responsibilities:

  1. To provide direct & indirect services to women, adolescents and children who have been exposed to domestic, family, intimate partner and sexual violence.
  2. To promote community development, prevention and awareness relating to domestic, family, intimate partner and sexual violence
  3. To provide referral services.

Specific responsibilities include:

Client Support & Crisis Response

  • Provide trauma‑informed support to women, children, and adolescents affected by domestic, family, intimate partner, and sexual violence.
  • Respond to and manage crisis calls and in‑person visits.
  • Maintain confidentiality and engage in collaborative safety planning.
  • Advocate for clients and provide accompaniment to appointments and court proceedings.
  • Assist clients in accessing safe housing, including Transition Houses and emergency shelters.
  • Provide and receive appropriate referrals with community partners.

Community Engagement & Prevention

  • Promote community development, prevention, and awareness related to domestic, family, intimate partner, and sexual violence.
  • Develop and deliver public education and awareness presentations in schools and communities.
  • Provide outreach services to Antigonish and Guysborough Counties.
  • Participate as a Naomi Society representative on relevant committees and sub‑committees.
  • Build relationships with newcomers and diverse communities to increase awareness of and access to Naomi Society's services.

Organizational & Administrative Duties

  • Maintain case notes, client files, and data management systems.
  • Prepare monthly reports, collect statistics, and attend meetings as required.
  • Assist with volunteer recruitment, orientation, and ongoing support.
  • Contribute to fundraising activities.
  • Plan and facilitate support groups.
  • Support proposal and grant writing for related projects.
  • Share resources and collaborate with co‑workers to ensure high‑quality service delivery.
  • Work within Naomi Society policies, procedures, and standards, including those of THANS.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant provincial legislation (e.g., Children & Family Services Act, Adult Protection Act).
  • Maintain ongoing professional development.
  • Conduct additional duties as assigned by the Executive Director.
Qualifications
  • Diploma or degree in social sciences, social services, counselling or equivalent combination of training and expertise
  • 2-5-years' experience with a strong understanding of the dynamics of family, intimate partner and sexual violence
  • Experience in support counselling with a trauma informed approach
  • Interest in and demonstrated ability to support newcomers and individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds
  • Demonstrated ability to respond in a crisis while maintaining strong judgement and decision making
  • Proficiency in the development, implementation and facilitation of educational programs and presentations
  • Knowledge of the justice system
  • Ability to navigate community support systems
  • A strong sense of community resources and agencies
  • Experience doing advocacy work
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills
  • Exceptional computer skills
  • Applicant must be willing to travel with compensation for mileage
  • A valid driver's license, insurance, reliable transportation

Terms of Employment

  • Permanent, Fulltime, Salary Range: $59,161.56-$69,654.78/year
  • Access to Chamber of Commerce Health Benefits and RRSP Benefit Program
  • 35 Hours/Week, usually Monday-Friday, 0800-1600 with evenings and weekends when required
  • Some flexibility to work from home on occasion
