The Department of Education and Early Childhood Development (EECD) is seeking an individual to join the Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Team as an Occupational Health and Safety Consultant to support the francophone Nord-Est School Districts.
This is an exciting opportunity in a challenging and rewarding field to work with a team of professionals dedicated to improving the culture of occupational health and safety at EECD and in the School Districts.
What you will do:
Reporting to the Security & Safety Manager at EECD, the Health and Safety Consultant's role will focus on the successful implementation and maintenance of a compliant and sustainable school district Health and Safety Program.
Assigned to the francophone Nord-Est School District, the Occupational Health and Safety Consultant will provide the School Districts with expert advice, OHS training, OHS quality control and quality assurance. They will implement best practices utilizing current research and tools meeting New Brunswick Occupational Health and Safety legislative requirements.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- The development, implementation and monitoring of effective health and safety systems including associated programs and procedures.
- Liaise with WorkSafeNB for reporting requirements, work refusals, complaints, investigations, or order.
- Monitor and ensure compliance with applicable health and safety legislation.
- Deliver training for school personnel on programs as required.
- Keeps current with health and safety best practices, legislation changes, new developments, and trends.
- Supporting the school district and providing guidance as a subject matter expert on occupational health and safety standards, risk assessment methodologies, and safety management systems.
- Partners with managers and school personnel to positively impact the health and safety behaviors / culture business results.
- Ensures proper health and safety orientation training of all newly hired school personnel and continuing health and safety training for current school personnel.
- Providing direction to school personnel regarding client specific information, departmental process, policies, standards etc. and other general items.
- Coordinating Health and Safety issue escalation process as required to support day to day and project centric activities.
- Reviewing and validating internal health and safety policies and protocol; and work with stakeholders (external and/or internal department) to resolve issues when required.
- Providing advice on Occupational Health and Safety issues to employee and management team, contractors, and organizers of special events and conferences.

Required Competencies:
- University degree in Occupational Health and Safety with minimum of three (3) years of Occupational Health and Safety industry experience OR a post-secondary diploma in an Occupational Health and Safety Programs with five (5) year experience.
- Proficient in Microsoft software programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and SharePoint).
- An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.
Written and spoken competence in French is required. Please state your language capability.
Applicants must clearly demonstrate the essential qualifications to be given further consideration. Please ensure that preferred language for assessment is identified on your resume.
Nice to have:
- Possess or be eligible to obtain the Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) OR Canadian Registered Safety Technician (CRST) OR National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO) designation would be an asset.
- Experience with a job hazard analysis, analysis of workplace accidents or Joint Health Safety Committee would be an asset.
- Experience in overseeing and delivering the health and safety program, standard operating procedures, work safe practice or best practice.
- Experience with injury claim management or duty to accommodate would be an asset.
- Training in WHMIS, fall protection, confined space, lock out and accident investigation would be an asset.
- Experience with threat assessment, emergency procedure, conducting security inspection, investigation, implement security protocol or procedure, awareness / prevention program.
- Certified Train the Trainer on various Occupational Health and Safety related topics would be an asset.

Operational requirements:
- Possession of a valid class 5 driver's licence as issued by the Province of New Brunswick is also required and own use of transportation.
- Travel within the province is required.

Wage:
Pay Band 4: $59,046 - $82,576 annually.
Work environment:
- Office location: francophone Nord-Est School District (Bathurst Region).
- Standard hours of work: Monday - Friday, 8:15am-4:30pm.

- Conducting adult training, workplace health and safety inspections, audits and/or incident investigation.
