Job Summary
The incumbent is responsible for the provision of services to Long Term Care sites in Rural Avalon (Carbonear Long Term Care & Lion's Manor) in the area of Speech Language Pathology. The clinical areas include, but are not limited to, medical speech language pathology, communication management of dementia, medical dysphagia, end of life swallowing care/management, long term ventilation swallowing and communication management, augmentative and alternative communication. The major clinical responsibilities include prevention, assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of all types of speech language disorders, evaluation, treatment, health promotion, quality initiatives, staff education and public awareness. In addition, the incumbent will provide Speech Language Pathology coverage to Carbonear General Hospital as required.

The Speech-Language Pathologist will be responsible to precept Speech-Language Pathology students and offer other clinical education experience to students within NLHS.

This position reports to the Regional Manager of Allied Health Services - Rural Avalon and maintains accountability to the Professional Practice Consultant for Speech Language Pathology for professional integrity and practice issues.

Occasionally, there is lifting or physical strength required (i.e. lifting up to 25 lbs. while carrying boxes of resources/materials, flip charts and audio-visual equipment for group work activities, Sits or stands to consult with clients, conduct therapeutic sessions, work on the computer or occasionally works in awkward or cramped body positions.

Job Qualifications
Graduation with a Master's degree in Speech Language Pathology from an approved/recognized program.
Current registration with the NL Council of Health Professionals is required.
A valid Newfoundland and Labrador Class 5 Driver's License and the use of a private vehicle are conditions of employment.
A satisfactory record of work performance is required.
