ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY
NL Health Services – Eastern Urban Zone invites applications for a 1.0 FTE salaried Pediatrician within the Children's and Women's Health Program. The successful candidate will function as a Pediatrician with dedicated responsibilities in Complex Medical Care (0.6 FTE) and Pediatric Palliative Care (0.4 FTE), providing comprehensive care to children and youth across Newfoundland and Labrador.
This position is accountable to the Division Head of General Pediatrics and the Clinical Chief of Children's and Women's Health.
The Pediatric Palliative Care component involves consultation, symptom management, serious-illness communication, bereavement support, and care coordination for pediatric patients with life-limiting or life-threatening illness.
The Complex Medical Care (CMC) component involves providing coordinated, longitudinal care to children with severe, multisystem, technology-dependent, and high-needs conditions — a growing provincial population requiring enhanced continuity and care coordination.
NL Health Services is affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine at Memorial University of Newfoundland and Labrador and is a teaching site for multiple disciplines. The incumbent will interact with clinical clerks, interns, and Family Medicine and other specialty residents, and is expected to participate in undergraduate and postgraduate medical teaching.

QUALIFICATIONS
- Medical Degree (MD) from a recognized institution
- Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada certification in Pediatrics (or equivalent)
- Eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Newfoundland and Labrador (www.cpsnl.ca)
- Must satisfy credentialing requirements of NL Health Services including a satisfactory criminal record check and vulnerable sector check
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Pediatric Palliative Care:
- Provide palliative care consultation for infants, children, and adolescents with life-limiting or life-threatening conditions
- Conduct comprehensive chart reviews, family meetings, symptom assessment, and goals of care discussions
- Provide anticipatory guidance, end-of-life care planning, and post-death bereavement support
- Contribute to policies, pre-printed order sets, bereavement resources, and provincial guidance for pediatric palliative care
- Support interprofessional education on pediatric palliative care principles
Complex Medical Care (CMC):
- Provide longitudinal care through the Complex Care Clinic, functioning as the medical home for children with medical complexity
- Develop, document, and maintain comprehensive care plans addressing technology dependence, multisystem needs, and specialist coordination
- Lead proactive care planning to reduce avoidable ED visits, hospitalizations, and length of stay
- Provide consultative services to regional hospitals and community partners regarding CMC care coordination and medical planning
- Participate in developing standardized care plans, pathways, and order sets for CMC
- Engage in initiatives targeting communication, continuity, and transitions of care
General Responsibilities:
- Participate in General Pediatric inpatient coverage and support transitions of care and discharge planning for CMC patients admitted to the Janeway
- Participate in the General Pediatrics on-call schedule, including after-hours consultation and inpatient coverage
- Participate in undergraduate and postgraduate medical teaching in collaboration with discipline chairs
- Support person- and family-centered care; promote patient and worker safety by integrating safety into work practices, identifying risks, and implementing improvements
REMUNERATION
Remuneration will be in accordance with the Memorandum of Agreement for salaried physicians in Newfoundland and Labrador, commensurate with level of experience.
