ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

NL Health Services ? Western Zone is seeking a permanent full-time General Surgeon for Western Memorial Regional Hospital (WMRH) in Corner Brook, NL. The successful candidate will be responsible for General Surgery services including elective and emergency surgeries at WMRH.

This position functions within a shared practice model delivered under a Fee-For-Service (FFS) structure, where all surgeons contribute and resources are allocated equitably.

Western Memorial Regional Hospital is a newly constructed, state-of-the-art acute care facility that opened in June 2024. The hospital serves as a 164-bed regional referral centre for Western Newfoundland, delivering a broad range of secondary and select tertiary services to a population of approximately 80,000 residents. NL Health Services is affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine of Memorial University of Newfoundland and Labrador, and academic interests are encouraged and supported.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Eligible for licensure as a General Surgeon with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Newfoundland and Labrador (www.cpsnl.ca)
  • Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada certification (preferred)
  • Must satisfy credentialing requirements of Western Zone's Discipline of Surgery
  • Satisfactory Certificate of Conduct from the RCMP or local police authority
  • Satisfactory record of work performance and attendance

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide General Surgery services including elective and emergency surgeries
  • Participate in a shared practice model with equitable allocation of resources
  • Provide on-call coverage as required
  • Work collaboratively with the interdisciplinary surgical team
  • Support person- and family-centered care; promote patient and worker safety by integrating safety into work practices, identifying risks, and implementing improvements

REMUNERATION

Remuneration model is a hybrid of:

  • Fee-For-Service (FFS) for elective work ? as per the Medical Care Plan (MCP) Fee Schedule
  • Alternate Payment Plan (APP) daily remuneration for on-call services
  • Annual Retention Bonus in accordance with the current Memorandum of Agreement (MOA)
