Job Summary:
The Health Promotion Non-Communicable Disease and Injury Prevention Core
Program of the Provincial Public Health Program seeks a motivated, independent
thinker with interest in using a comprehensive approach working with communities to
prevent disease and injury and improve overall health status across the province. This
advanced professional leadership position provides guidance and expertise in the
promotion of healthy communities through collaboration and engagement with key
internal and external partners.
Using a population health approach, and considering the social determinants of health,
the role involves assessing, planning, developing, coordinating, implementing, and
evaluating programs, services, policies, and resources for different priority areas,
populations, and groups. It requires independent judgment and collaboration with
NLHS, government departments, schools, municipalities, and community partners. This
role focuses on applying evidence-informed practices and the Provincial Public Health
Framework to promote health equity within the Provincial Public Health Program. The
Health Promotion & Well-Being Consultant will support and consult with the public
health team provincially, across all zones of NLHS.
Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
? Support one of six Wellness Coalitions in NLHS, and/or lead provincial priority
areas, and provide zonal support to engage communities
? Collaborate with municipalities, community groups, and cross-sector partners to
enhance the impact and sustainability of health promotion action and strengthen
healthy communities.
? Apply a population health approach, including determinants of health and a
health equity lens, to analyze health issues.
? Use health promotion principles, theory, and evidence to plan, implement, and
evaluate initiatives.
? Provide leadership and build public health capacity in planning, implementing,
and evaluating public health action.
? Conduct situational assessments and develop a plan to achieve measurable
public health goals and objectives based on situational assessment findings.
? Communicate health promotion information effectively with diverse audiences
using appropriate approaches and technologies.
? Utilize a strong understanding of the development of and advocacy for policies
to improve health and reduce inequities.

? Occasionally lifting and moving resource material such as audiovisual equipment
and workshop materials between 10 - 25 lbs.
? Regularly sitting at a computer, standing/walking or driving to and from sites to
participate in workshops and training sessions in the zone where there is
repetitive alertness required.
? Regularly operating a computer, performing fine finger or precision work where
visual concentration is required for reading text, performing data entry, and
compiling statistical reports.
? Regular auditory concentration is required for routine verbal communication.
? Time pressures and deadlines to fulfill work activities, complete reports, and to
respond to funding requests.
? An occasional lack of control over the pace of work due to the requirement to
participate in community meetings and committee work.
? Occasionally work results in fatigue, requiring periods of rest.
Job Qualifications:
? Bachelor of Science in Health Promotion/Health Studies or a bachelor's degree in
a related discipline is required.
? Master's degree in Health Promotion or Public Health would be an asset.
? Minimum of two years' experience in community-based health promotion
including the application of population health and health promotion theory and
strategies; retrieval and analysis of health status information; and identifying
appropriate health promotion actions, is required.
? Experience facilitating community mobilization and building community capacity
around shared health priorities would be an asset.
? Demonstrated leadership in team and organizational learning to advance health
promotion goals.
? Excellent interpersonal, communication and facilitation skills; knowledge of adult
learning principles.
? The use of a private vehicle is a condition of employment, and travel throughout
the zone is an expectation of the role.
? A satisfactory record of work performance and attendance is required
