Assistant Director of Care (ADOC)
Location: Grand View Manor (GVM)
Position Summary
Grand View Manor is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Assistant Director of Care (ADOC) to support the delivery of high-quality, resident-centered care. Reporting to the Director of Care, the ADOC oversees the nursing team and ensures continuity of care and compliance with all regulatory standards in the Director's absence. The ideal candidate is a strong leader who promotes excellence in long-term care, supports staff development, and fosters meaningful relationships with residents, tenants, and their families.
Key Responsibilities
- Admissions & Resident Care
- Coordinate admissions, transfers, and ongoing assessments for residents and tenants
- Collaborate with nursing staff and interdisciplinary teams to meet care needs
- Act as a liaison for residents, families, and external partners (e.g., healthcare providers, government agencies)
- Address resident and family concerns through support, counseling, and communication
- Develop and implement care strategies, including interventions for complex or challenging behaviors
- Ensure compliance with relevant legislation and care standards
- Health, Safety & Compliance
- Monitor quality of care and nursing practices to ensure regulatory compliance
- Investigate and report incidents, including resident safety concerns
- Maintain accurate documentation and resident records
- Support emergency preparedness, business continuity, and safety initiatives
- Collaborate with pharmacy, safety teams, and internal departments
- Oversee inventory management for nursing supplies
- Education & Leadership
- Provide coaching, education, and support to nursing staff
- Lead training initiatives focused on best practices, risk management, and compassionate care
- Support recruitment, onboarding, and performance evaluations
- Promote a culture of continuous learning and quality improvement
- Develop educational materials for residents, families, and staff
- Facilitate tours and represent the organization as needed
Qualifications
- Registered Nurse in good standing with the College of Registered Nurses of Nova Scotia
- Licensed Practical Nurse in good standing with the College of Registered Nurses of Nova Scotia
- Minimum 5 years of supervisory experience in geriatrics or long-term care
- Additional training in leadership, management, or supervision considered an asset
