The Payroll Clerk II is responsible for the preparation and processing of the bi-weekly payroll, including report preparation and verification, third party payments, records of employment, employee related payroll issues and other related duties as required. The position will maintain a close relationship with human resources personnel and various departmental employees directly dealing with payroll input and processing.

Job Demands:

  • Occasionally required to lift files and supplies weighing less than 10 lbs.
  • Occasional bending, stretching to retrieve and return files.
  • A high level of visual concentration and precision required to prepare calculations, input data, audit records and review while sitting and using a calculator, keyboard, and computer mouse.
  • Auditory concentration is required to listen to and respond to inquiries from staff and agencies.

Qualifications:
Completion of a minimum two-year Business Program specializing in accounting from a recognized post-secondary institution is required. In addition, the completion of the Payroll Compliance Professional (PCP) designation from the National Payroll Institute is required.
Please note: As NPI is grandfathering people with Levels One and Two of the PMCP into the new PCP program, union members qualified under the old system will continue to meet the new requirements.

Demonstrated effective time management skills and the ability to meet strict timelines.
Demonstrated strong organizational skills.
Ability to work both collaboratively and with a high degree of independence and initiative.
Ability to communicate effectively.
Demonstrated strong customer service skills.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs (specifically Excel and Word).

Should no qualified candidates be found with the Payroll Compliance Professional designation from the National Payroll Institute, consideration will be given to candidates with completion of a minimum two-year Business Program specializing in accounting and who agree to begin working on the PCP program and agrees to finish it within two years however, the successful candidate must enroll in the first course within six weeks of successfully completing their probation or trial period.
