The Director of Regional Operations will be responsible for safely and efficiently leading large operational teams within the Energy Delivery team who champion safety, the environment, customer performance standards, customer experience and reliability for our customers. This team is made up of thirty depots in four territories across the province and includes all the Powerline Technicians, Underground Electricians, Substation Technicians and Electricians, Line Services Contractors and fleet.

Reporting to the Senior Director, Energy Delivery, you'll be responsible for a critical leadership role with a broad operational scope across the business.


Key elements of this role include:
  • Taking ownership of the safety of the Regional Operations team by observing and ensuring compliance with all Occupational Health and Safety Rules and Regulations.

  • You will be accountable for environmental performance as it relates to the environmental management system processes and initiatives.

  • Ensuring that Nova Scotia Power's business purpose and financial objectives are met through long- and short-term planning and execution of non-union and union field resources.

  • Warranting all safety, vehicle, equipment, maintenance, and operating procedures in Regional Operations are effectively executed.

  • You will ensure that the needs of NSP's customers are a primary focus of all provincial activities by delivering on customer service excellence.

  • You will lead the Regional Operations team through all aspects of Level 1-4 storm management, coordination, and restoration.

  • You will lead the Regional Operations team to ensure the highest level of performance while ensuring that effective health and safety programs are in place while maintaining a high level of employee morale, commitment, and productivity by training, developing, motivating, and communicating with all employees. You will administer the Collective Agreement, ensuring just and consistent interpretation through the service area.

  • As the Director, Regional Operations you will get the unique opportunity and responsibility to contribute significant value to NS Power by leading a critical operational team.

In this role you will work closely with the senior leaders in Safety, Energy Delivery, Enterprise Asset Management, Customer Care, Communications and Regulatory Affairs as well as key community members throughout the province, government officials and large customers.


These skills will make you successful:

To thrive in this role, you recognize yourself in most of the following competencies and skills listed below:

  • University degree in Engineering, Sciences or Business, or possess a suitable combination of education and experience.

  • A minimum of seven to ten years' supervisory and leadership experience in a utility environment, with emphasis on safety & customer service excellence.

  • This role will require excellent leadership, management, communication, organizational and motivational skills and knowledge of transmission and distribution systems, resource work planning and utility finances would be considered an asset.
