Placement Description:
The Employment Counsellor Student will support Working NB in delivering career and training services to New Brunswickers seeking employment or educational opportunities.
Key responsibilities may include:
- Assisting clients in exploring values, interests, and skills to identify suitable career pathways
- Supporting clients in identifying appropriate training and education options
- Shadowing employment counsellors during meetings with new and existing clients
- Assisting with documentation and data entry
- Providing front-line support in a client-facing environment
This placement offers hands-on experience in career development, employment counselling, and public service delivery. Students will receive coaching and mentorship from management and front-line staff while gaining practical exposure to client assessment, career planning, and employment support services. This role offers an opportunity for skills development with career-focused trainings, self-development workshops, and personalized mentorship.
Need to have:
- Language requirement: English and French (Bilingual)
- Currently enrolled in a post-secondary program in Psychology, Sociology, Education, Family Studies, Business, Human Resource Management, Criminology, Social Work, or another Social Sciences field
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
- Strong client service orientation
- Effective interactive communication skills
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
- Strong planning and organizational skills
Nice to have:
- Counselling or coaching experience (school, volunteer, or work)
- Experience in customer service or public-facing roles
- Interest in career development, workforce services, or community support
