Forestry Technician

As part of the Transmission Vegetation Management team, the Forestry Technician is responsible for planning, coordinating and delivering on preventative maintenance and vegetation management weekly, monthly and annual targets, along with operational and customer vegetation management needs, through providing supervision to vegetation contractors, ensuring the work is performed per specification and in a safe manner.
Key functions include:
- Conducting field inspections and detailed assessments of work areas along Transmission Rights-of-Way to identify vegetation, access, and safety conditions, and to document required maintenance activities
- Identifying and removing hazardous vegetation conditions within Transmission Rights-of-Way, substations, and terminals in accordance with applicable safety, environmental, and operational standards
- Periodically supervising hired service contractors by monitoring work progress, verifying compliance with specifications and safety requirements, and addressing field issues as they arise
Our ideal teammate will have one of the following:
- Bachelor of Science in Forestry
- Bachelor of Science in Forestry Engineering
- Diploma in Forest Technology
In addition to:
- Valid Class 5 Driver's License
- Basic computer skills in Microsoft Office programs (i.e., Word, Excel)
Experience in one of the following would be considered an asset:
- A certification as an ISA Certified Arborist or ISA Certified Utility Specialist or is able to become certified within 2 years from the date of hire
- Field operations and supervision, including chainsaw work, scheduling and coordinating tasks, overseeing crews, managing contractors, and resolving customer issues
- Off-road vehicle operation in forestry or field environments
- Rigging experience
