Existing Vacancy: Yes - we're currently hiring candidates for an existing vacancy in this position.Location: Remote - Candidate must reside in the Province of Ontario or Nova Scotia Job Summary: The Manager, Data Governance and Reporting plays a strategic role in advancing VON's data and reporting governance maturity. Your work is cross-functional with Business, Clinical and Technology partners to drive data quality, enable analytics, and support regulatory and operational excellence reporting requirements. The Manager, Data Governance and Reporting, recognizes the importance of data and drives initiatives with significant organizational visibility and influence. Key Responsibilities:
  • Leads the implementation of data governance practices, including relevant policies, processes, and artifacts.
  • Leads, builds, and performance manages a team in alignment with VON processes and best practices.
  • Supports/ contributes to budget development and oversight
  • Builds a team culture of trust, collaboration, and delivery while managing resource allocations on various initiatives and projects.
  • Collaborates with business data owners and Information Systems to manage metadata, lineage, and data flows.
  • Coordinates resolution of data issues and facilitates remediation strategies.
  • Supports creation of curated datasets for analytics, reporting, and visualization.
  • Contributes to strategic data inventories and roadmaps.
  • Develops dashboard and tracking mechanisms to monitor and improve data quality.
  • Establishes and monitors Key Risk Indicators (KRI) and Process Risk Controls (PRC) to reduce data risk.
  • Documents and maintains operational procedures for audit readiness.
  • Supports stakeholder training and communications to drive adoption.
  • Conducts need assessments and recommends process improvements.
  • Provides guidance on future-ready data solutions and business intelligence models.
  • Develops and maintains robust reporting frameworks and dashboards for various metrics, performance & data quality.
  • Provides actionable insights and recommendations to senior leadership based on data analysis.
  • Performs User Acceptance Testing (UAT) with our internal Business Intelligence team.
  • Oversees the collection, storage, and retrieval of data from various sources, ensuring compliance with data governance policies.
  • Identifies opportunities for process improvements and automation within the reporting, analytics & data governance function.
  • Implements best practices for data analysis, reporting, and visualization to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Identifies gaps in current processes and weaknesses that could undermine the efficiency & effectiveness of business strategy or opportunities for improvement.
Common Leadership Responsibilities:
  • Promotes the strategy of VON and its role as an integrated community care provider to all stakeholders and staff.
  • Prioritizes and ensures alignment of emerging opportunities in the community with the VON strategic plan.
  • Provides leadership in navigating the requirements and complexities of unionized and nonunionized environments.
  • Coaches, advises, motivates, and provides leadership to staff; creates a positive workplace.
  • Promotes the Lean team management approach to ensure a common paradigm of management and discipline of management practices.
  • Ensures there are mechanisms for all staff to come together to hear of organizational news and to provide feedback on what is working and what is not working.
  • Ensures all Districts have a plan to complete performance development and learning plans with all staff.
  • Promotes common approaches to orientation, learning, motivating, recognizing and supporting staff when achieving organizational goals; such as meeting or exceeding KPIs, meeting or exceeding milestones.
  • Provides leadership and commitment to building client and family engagement and following accreditation Canada Standards.
  • Provides leadership in the promotion of a safe and healthy workplace ensuring workplace conduct and activities are in accordance with the provincial Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations, that KPIs related to safety are regularly reviewed by management, that appropriate investigations occur when needed, and plans to address issues are created and acted upon.
  • Compliant with the VON Safety Management System, including all Safe Work Practices and Procedures.
  • Promotes work/life balance fostering professional excellence and personal fulfilment and health.
  • Promotes the use of technology-based systems for the capture, transformation and distribution of knowledge.
  • Abides by all confidentiality and protection of personal information policies, regulations and practices and ensures appropriate safeguards are in place in the Region.
External and Internal Relationships:
  • Establishes effective working relationships and communications with cross-functional team members and management.
  • Builds strong interpersonal relationships with peers and other key stakeholders.
  • Collaborates with stakeholders, service providers and consultants as needed.
Education, Designations and Experience:
  • University degree in a data or technical-related field or related years of experience
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in Data Management & Governance within enterprise environments, with 3 years managing others either in a direct or indirect capacity
  • Strong working knowledge of Structured Query Language (SQL); familiarity with Python, Java, and C/C++ is preferred.
  • Experience with Business Intelligence (BI) tools (Power BI, Domo, Looker).
  • Experience writing SQL queries and creating Extract Transform Loads (ETL).
  • Proven ability to lead projects and change management initiatives.
  • Strong verbal/written communication and collaboration skills.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) or equivalent certification is an asset.

  • Strong planning, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
  • Ability to present and provide evidence-based, data-driven recommendations to Senior Management.
  • Versatility, flexibility, and a willingness to lead and manage change.

  • Travel, overtime and irregular work schedules as required.
  • The use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) may be required.
Working conditions and physical demands: This role requires a detail-oriented approach in a dynamic environment, with physical activity including lifting, carrying (using proper techniques), bending, reaching, kneeling, and other movements that emphasize good body mechanics. Individuals in the role are required to walk, sit, stand, and climb stairs throughout the day, with some tasks requiring fine hand movements.
