Position Summary:

We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Contractual Foot Care Nurse to provide expert foot care services to residents in our care facility. The ideal candidate will have proven experience in foot care, a strong commitment to resident-centered care, and the ability to work with individuals living with dementia. As a contractual employee, the Foot Care Nurse will be responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating foot care for residents, while ensuring the highest standards of care and safety.

Qualifications:

Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) with a good standing license with the College of Nurses of Nova Scotia

Foot Care Certification

Clear Criminal Record and Vulnerable Sector Checks

Minimum of 1 year of experience in foot care, ideally in a healthcare setting such as long-term care or a retirement home

Valid and up to date Worker's Compensation Board (WCB) coverage

Experience working with residents living with dementia is an asset

Must carry personal professional liability insurance

Demonstrated ability to provide compassionate, resident-centered care

Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with residents, families, and team members.

Proficiency in documentation and familiarity with electronic health records is an asset

Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative care team

Functions and Responsibilities:

Deliver high-quality foot care based on individualized needs, including assessment of foot health, treatment of foot conditions, and implementation of preventive measures to maintain or improve foot health.

Apply specialized knowledge and skills to provide foot care for residents living with dementia, ensuring the care approach is tailored to their cognitive and emotional needs.

Demonstrate patience and empathy while providing care for residents who may be anxious or resistant.

Conduct thorough assessments of residents' feet and lower limbs, identifying any issues such as infection, circulation problems, wounds, or other conditions requiring intervention.

Provide appropriate treatments for conditions such as corns, calluses, ingrown toenails, and other common foot ailments. Educate staff about foot care maintenance and hygiene to prevent complications.

Maintain accurate, up-to-date documentation of assessments, treatments, and interventions. Communicate effectively with other healthcare providers, families, and staff members to ensure coordinated care.

Adhere to infection control protocols and maintain a clean, safe, and well-organized work environment. Follow all relevant regulations and guidelines to ensure the safety of residents and staff.

Provide education to staff on basic foot care
