The Application Architect supports the delivery of the most challenging projects our organization implements, including new technology and solutions proofs of concept, integration in to existing systems and assisting with support across multiple delivery domains. Involved in every cycle of project delivery, the Application Architect is the design authority in term of hardware/software selection, application architecture, security & network requirements, specifications and design review and implementation.
Tasks and Responsibilities :
Working within our team on various projects, the Application Architect will be responsible for:
  • Participate in the planning and early design sessions of new project and technology functionality
  • Perform impact analysis of new technologies and projects.
  • Develop, deploy and monitor new solutions.
  • Document technical user stories and implemented solutions.
  • Perform code and design reviews with vendors and other technical specialists
  • Order, configure and deploy new hardware infrastructure.
  • Capacity planning and definition of the performance testing plans, including overseeing the execution of the performance testing by user teams.
  • Integrate platforms from different business units.

Preferred Qualifications/Competencies:
  • Training/Education
    • Bachelors of computer engineering or computer science (preferred)
    • Bachelors in telecommunications / network engineering
    • Equivalent experience and / or education

  • Skills
    • Ability to independently investigate and learn about new technology
    • Strong analytical and communication skills
    • Strong troubleshooting skills (ability to uncover trouble rapidly, investigate root cause and provide resolution)
    • Good organization and time management skills
    • Excellent ability to articulate and document technical concepts to non-technical audience both verbally and in writing.
    • Autonomous, resourceful, strong tolerance to ambiguity, excellent capacity for applied learning
    • Bilingualism is an asset (English / French)

  • Technical Knowledge
    • CI/CD pipeline (Jenkins, Artifactory, uDeploy, uRelease & GitHub) (Mandatory)
    • Linux Server Administration
    • Apache / Confluent Kafka (Definite asset)
    • Kubernetes
    • OpenShift (Asset)
    • Elastic Stack (ElasticSearch, Logstash, Kibana)
    • Unix / Linux shell scripting (Asset)
    • Web Services systems integration and performance bench-marking

  • Databases (Asset)
    • Any RDBMS (Oracle - primarily, MySQL, SQL Server, Teradata, etc)
    • Any Hadoop NoSQL knowledge/experience
    • Experience building/executing procedures using SQL, PL/SQL, ETL

  • Programming languages (mandatory)
    • Any procedural language (C, Perl, Shell, AWK, Expect, TK, etc)
    • Enterprise application frameworks (Java EE, ESB, .NET, etc) Any OO language (Java- mainly, C/C++ an asset, Javascript, Python, etc)
    • Any markup language (HTML + CSS, XML, SGML, etc)

  • General understanding of:
    • Agile, Scrum or SAFe methodologies and related tools (Jira, Confluence etc.)
    • Network architecture concepts such as NML, MPLS, ICN, DMZ (asset)
    • Virtual Servers, VMWare, Docker, OpenShift

Working Conditions:
  • Ability to work efficiently in virtual teams with geographically dispersed team members.
  • Availability to work occasional weekends and evenings to meet hard deadlines and available to work occasional overnights to take part in deployment activities
  • Ability to travel on occasion as required.

Bilingualism is an asset (English and French); adequate knowledge of French is required for positions in Quebec.
