Job Overview We are seeking a motivated and compassionate Summer Student to join our Recreation Therapy team at Oakwood Terrace. This role provides practical, hands-on experience in a long-term care environment, focusing on enhancing the quality of life for our seniors through meaningful engagement and social connection.

Key Responsibilities

Program Delivery: Assist in implementing diverse leisure programs, including 1-to-1 walks, community outings, and group events.

Portering: Safely transport residents to and from activities and social programs.

Virtual Connections: Utilize social media, email, and video platforms (Facebook, Skype, Zoom) to help residents stay connected with their loved ones.

Behavioral Support: Work collaboratively with the Recreation Therapy team to support residents exhibiting responsive behaviors.

Documentation: Accurately track and document resident participation and progress in activity logs.

Qualifications & Requirements

Experience: Previous experience working with seniors with Dementia or individuals with disabilities is highly valued.

Programming Skills: Proven ability to facilitate and lead recreation programs in a healthcare or group setting.

Technical Literacy: Proficient in computers and social media (Facebook, Skype, etc.).

Personal Attributes: A positive, team-oriented attitude with a strong interest in Long-Term Care.

Eligibility: Per grant requirements, applicants must be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of employment.

Employment Details

Wage: $18.50 per hour

Hours: 35 hours per week

Term: 14-week contract
