Summer Student: Music Program Assistant
Job Overview Oakwood Terrace is looking for a talented and compassionate Summer Student to bring the power of music to our residents. This role is ideal for a student with musical talent who wants to gain hands-on experience in a healthcare setting, using their skills to improve the quality of life for seniors through song, instrumentals, and therapeutic interaction.
Key Responsibilities
Musical Program Delivery: Lead engaging group activities including sing-alongs, choir, musical quizzes, and reminiscence sessions.
Therapeutic Interaction: Facilitate 1-on-1 musical interventions specifically designed to elicit interaction and comfort for non-communicative residents.
Active Engagement: Lead "exercise to music" programs and musical social activities to promote physical and emotional well-being.
Collaborative Care: Work as part of a dedicated Recreation team to deliver holistic leisure programs that enhance the daily lives of our residents.
Qualifications & Requirements
Musical Talent: Capable of playing a musical instrument (piano or guitar preferred) and/or singing.
Education: Must have completed high school or post-secondary education and be returning to school in the fall.
Interpersonal Skills: A positive, team-oriented attitude with the ability to lead and inspire others through music.
Experience: Previous experience in Long-Term Care is considered a strong asset.
Employment Details
Wage: $18.50 per hour
Hours: 35 hours per week
Term: 14-week contract
