About the opportunity:
If you have strong judgment, are skilled at managing difficult situations, and have experience working with animals, we have a rewarding opportunity for you in our Bylaw Services Division! In this role, you will handle animal-related complaints, explain and enforce bylaw requirements, and issue notices or lay charges as needed. Your duties will include patrolling the city, including parks and trails, to ensure compliance with animal control regulations. This position is physically demanding, requiring you to apprehend animals and work outdoors in all weather conditions. Shift work is required. The current shift is two (2) days, two (2) afternoons four (4) days on, and four (4) days off. 7 am-7 pm, 1 pm-11 pm.
About your background:
You have completed Grade 12 and ideally have the Bylaw Enforcement and Investigative Skills Certificate Program, Level 1, from the Justice Institute of BC. Additionally, you should have at least one year of experience in a regulatory environment, with a strong background in investigative and enforcement work. Experience in handling and apprehending potentially aggressive or dangerous animals would be an asset. The successful candidate will be required to complete the Animal Control Basic Training Online Certificate Program from Langara College within one year of hire. A valid full privilege Class 5 driver's license (or out of province equivalent) is required. You must also be able to obtain and maintain a clear Police Information Check for offenses relevant to this position.
