Job Title: Water Resources Engineer

Reporting directly to Skeena's Project and Engineering Director, the Water Resources Engineer will play a crucial role in ensuring efficient and sustainable water management practices are implemented throughout the project's lifecycle.

Responsibilities (Including but not limited to):

  • Lead Skeena's Water Management practices for the Eskay Creek Revitalization Project.
  • Develop and oversee the design and engineering of water management/treatment infrastructure.
  • Utilize hydrological modeling tools to predict water flow patterns, anticipate potential issues, and design effective solutions to issues.
  • Conduct comprehensive assessments of water resources in the project area, including surface and groundwater sources. Analyze the quality and sustainability of water resources.
  • Analysis and management of mine impacted seepage water from mine infrastructure.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Work closely with environmental teams to ensure that water management practices meet environmental regulations and best practices, minimizing the project's impact on the surrounding ecosystem.
  • Seek opportunities to collaborate with local indigenous communities to understand cultural significance of water that will be considered in overall water management strategy development for the project.
  • Ensure that the project remains compliant with regulations throughout its duration.
  • Work closely with interdisciplinary teams, including geologists, surveyors, and other engineers, to integrate water management solutions into the broader project objectives.
  • Maintain detailed records, prepare technical reports, and present findings and recommendations to project stakeholders and regulatory agencies as required.
  • Provide technical direction, technical reviews and project management of fundamental tasks related to environmental application (EA), and Joint Application (JA) permits.
  • All other duties as reasonably assigned.

The Ideal Candidate

  • Bachelors Degree in Civil Engineering or Water Resources Engineering, and postgraduate degrees in water related field is preferred.
    Professional Engineer designation.
  • Proven experience in civil engineering, with a specialization in water management for mining or construction projects.
  • Experience with sediment & erosion control is required, particularly into drainage & ditch designs from stockpile run-off.
  • Experience with the management and analysis of mine impacted seepage water from the assets.
  • Proficiency in hydrological, water balance, groundwater, and water quality modeling software such as GoldSim, Leapfrog, FELLOW, and MUDFLOW and engineering design tools.
  • Strong knowledge of water quality standards, environmental regulations, and safety protocols.
  • Excellent problem-solving, communication, and project management skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team and independently as needed.

Work Environment

This is an office-based job, in Skeena's Corporate office located in Vancouver, BC, on a Monday to Friday schedule. Hybrid working arrangements may be considered.

This job requires the incumbent to be able to work away from home occasionally and to be able to travel to different work locations or events outside of regular office hours as well as traveling to Skeena's remote project sites and collaborate with internal and external parties.
