Job Title: Water Treatment Plant Operator

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Water Treatment Operator to join our team at the Eskay Creek Site in Northern British Columbia. Reporting directly to the Skeena's Project and Engineering Director, the successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of our potable water treatment, wastewater treatment, and mine water treatment systems.

Responsibilities (including but not limited to):

  • Operate and maintain potable water treatment, wastewater treatment, and mine water treatment systems
  • Monitor equipment and processes to ensure compliance with regulatory standards and environmental requirements
  • Read flow meters, gauges and other recording instruments to measure water output and consumption levels, bacterial content, chlorine and fluoride levels
  • Provide verbal or written instructions for process control changes to waterworks system to ensure water produced meets standardized quality requirements
  • May perform minor maintenance or assist skilled tradespersons with installation and repair of plant machinery
  • Conduct routine inspections and tests on water samples to assess quality and identify any deviations.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues with equipment or processes to minimize downtime and maintain efficiency
  • Maintain accurate records of plant operations, including maintenance logs, and regulatory reports.

Required Skills:

  • Relevant certification in water treatment operations (minimum Level I EOCP, Level II preferred).
  • Must have Hepatitis A & B (Twinrix), Tetanus (Td), and Typhoid shots.
  • Previous experience operating water treatment systems, preferably in an industrial or remote setting.
  • Strong understanding of water treatment principles, processes, and technologies.
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements and standards related to water quality and environmental protection.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic, remote site environment.
  • Commitment to safety and compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Valid Class 5 driving license.

Work Location & Conditions

This is a site-based camp job at Eskay Creek Mine site. This position involves working at a remote mine site on a 15 days on/13 days off rotation. Additionally, the job is in a fast-paced working environment, with having to manage multiple competing priorities.

The Eskay Creek Revitalization Project is located within the Coast Mountains of Northwestern British Columbia and Tahltan Territory. Ground transportation will be provided from local communities to the Eskay Creek Site facilities. For those applicants located elsewhere in western Canada, flight transportation from major urban centers will be provided to the Terrace Airport, from which shuttles will provide transportation to the Eskay Creek Camp facilities. Travel time and expenses are subject to Skeena's Travel Policy.

There will be exposure to extreme temperatures in all seasons including working outdoors in snow, mud, ice, and water conditions, walking to and from different locations on uneven ground, prolonged periods of standing and physically handling/lifting/moving heavy objects.
