Course # and title: SOC348H5S - Indigenous Rights, Resistance, and Resurgence
Course description: This course explores Indigenous people's confrontations with colonization through an examination of rights-based processes, resistance movements, and community-let courts, and legal action; land reoccupation; political organizing; everyday acts of resistance and resurgence such as petitioning, social media, arts-based movements, and community initiatives.
Estimated course enrolment: 60
Estimated TA support: 90 hours (subject to enrolment)
Class schedule (Lectures): Wednesdays 5 - 7pm (online)
Sessional dates of appointment: January 1 - April 30, 2026
Salary: Minimum stipend $9,820.70 for a Half course (inclusive of vacation pay)

Minimum qualification: Candidates must have a PhD in Sociology or equivalent as demonstrated by refereed/published research, strong academic record, previous experience teaching a similar course, and evidence of teaching excellence in the subject covered in the course.

Description of duties: All normal duties related to the design and teaching of a university credit course, including preparation and delivery of course content; development, administration and marking of assignments, tests and exams; calculation and submission of grades; holding regular office hours; supervising TA's assigned to course; order all necessary readings.
