Maintenance Technician

Western District

Location: New Minas, Nova Scotia

The Opportunity

Under the direction of the Maintenance Supervisor, the Maintenance Technician is responsible for carrying out material and equipment installations, renovations, repairs and servicing in the following areas - carpentry, plumbing, heating, electrical, painting, and ventilation under the jurisdiction of the Nova Scotia Provincial Housing Agency.

Responsabilités
  • Maintain all building codes, installation requirements and relevant legislation by ensuring all installations, repairs and maintenance meet the requirements of appropriate codes.
  • Install, repair and maintain building systems and components.
  • Review building plans and specifications to determine the layout and related materials.
  • Install, repair and maintain any of the following: water treatment equipment, piping, controls, underground storm sanitary and water piping systems, sinks, tubs, toilets, water heaters and/or conditioners, plumbing fixtures, appliances and trim.
  • Perform scheduled maintenance services on building systems and fixtures.
  • Prepare and complete documentation such as work orders/supplies, vehicle reports, maintenance logs, inspection reports, and inventory records; and
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Must Have

  • Certificate of qualification under the Apprenticeship and Tradesman's Qualification Act of the Province of Nova Scotia or interprovincial certification (Red Seal Journeyman certification) plus three years' experience in building and property maintenance or related field is required.
  • Good knowledge of planned maintenance procedures as well as an awareness of building codes, municipal by laws, Provincial Acts and Regulations such as Workers' Compensation Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act and appropriate fire regulations and the Collective Agreement.
  • Competency with desktop applications such as Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with other trades, displays team building skills, and works to further the goals of the organization.

Nice to Have

  • Emergency First Aid and WHMIS certifications.
  • Knowledge of computer systems is beneficial.

The Fine Print

An equivalent combination of training, education and experience may be considered.

This position requires a valid driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle. Travel within the Western district is required.
