Definition of work: The Laboratory Technologist works primarily in the Pathology Laboratory of Central Newfoundland Regional Health Centre, performing all duties related to Pathology, Microbiology, Histology, Blood Transfusion, Chemistry, and Phlebotomy sections. The successful candidate may be required to rotate in different sections of the laboratory with shift duties or rotate on weekends and statutory holidays as required. Those based at rural sites may be expected to provide stand-by/call back laboratory service.
The successful candidate must demonstrate an awareness of and be responsible for promoting and supporting person-and family-centered care, demonstrate a commitment to safety and partner with all team members to improve worker and patient safety by integrating safety into work practices, identifying risks and implementing improvements.
Required qualifications:
 Graduation from high school with a diploma recognized by the Newfoundland and Labrador Department of Education and Early Childhood Development.
 Successful completion of a recognized/accredited Medical Laboratory Technology/Science program approved by Central Health.
 Certification with the CSMLS (Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Science) as a general MLT.
 Current and continued Registration with CSMLS and the NLCHP (Newfoundland and Labrador Council of Health Professionals).
 Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment.
 Demonstrated attention to detail in completion of all tasks.
 A satisfactory record of work performance and attendance is required for this position.
 A satisfactory certificate of conduct from the RCMP or local police authority.
