Job Summary
The Clinical Physiotherapist I is responsible for providing Physiotherapy services including assessment, physiotherapy intervention and discharge planning for patients in the medicine program. Patients requiring physiotherapy may have a variety of medical conditions/complications including but not limited to stroke, COPD, pneumonia, infection, renal impairment, cardiac dysfunction, and diabetes. These may occur in the context of elderly individuals with deconditioning, individuals with respiratory compromise and mobility impairment, or post-myocardial infarction for education regarding improvement for exercise tolerance.
The Physiotherapist is an integral member of the interdisciplinary health care team in the medicine program and participates in rounds and family meetings for the coordination of care and discharge planning. This position participates in the weekend coverage schedule and supports physiotherapy services to the St. Clare's site. Participation in quality initiatives of the program and profession are required. Student preceptorship is an expectation.

This position reports to the Division Manager, 4 West at SCMH, Medicine Program, receives clinical leadership from the PT II Medicine and Clinical Physiotherapist III and maintains accountability to the Physiotherapy Professional Practice Consultant for professional integrity and practice issues.

Occasionally lifts or moves objects between 10 - 37 lbs.
Regularly requires a combination of sitting, standing and walking.
Regularly required to bend, kneel, stretch and physically lifting, pushing, pulling and/or maneuvering patient/clients with medium force.
Occasionally uses hand tools and equipment.
Time pressures and interruptions are experienced with little control over work pace.
Higher than normal levels of attentiveness/alertness is required when performing activities for the client with complex medical conditions.

Job Qualifications
Graduation from an approved/recognized School of Physiotherapy Program is required.
Registration with the Newfoundland and Labrador College of Physiotherapist (NLCP) is required.
Demonstrated effective communication, both verbally and in writing with co-workers, patients and their families in a one to one and/or group environment.
Ability to direct, supervise and mentor students and physiotherapy support workers.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships as a member of an inter-professional team and be able to prioritize caseload and patient needs.
A satisfactory record of work performance is required.
