Atlantic Central is currently accepting applications for an Anti-Money Laundering (AML) Compliance Specialist for a 12-month contract position. This is a fully remote opportunity.

The Opportunity
As a member of the Atlantic Service Centre (ASC) Risk Management & Compliance team, the AML Compliance Specialist serves as the subject matter expert on Canada's anti-money laundering legislation and related regulatory compliance requirement.
The role is responsible for Verafin alert processing and case management, AML regulatory reporting, and providing guidance and support to customer organizations on all AML and broader regulatory compliance matters. The successful candidate will also act as the subject matter expert for non-AML compliance requirements, including Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL), Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act (FATCA), Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA), Common Reporting Standard (CRS).
- Review and analyze account and transactional activity within the Verafin platform and prepare and submit FINTRAC reports within legislated timelines.
- Perform AML Investigation and case management within Verafin, including case creation, documentation, investigation, enhanced due diligence, reporting and closure.
- Prepare and submit regulatory reports on behalf of customer organizations in accordance with established regulatory requirements and deadlines.
- Provide compliance guidance and support to customer organizations, including interpretation and application of Regulatory Compliance Management (RCM) framework; remediation planning; and compliance audit preparation.
- Assist with the preparation and submission of non-AML regulatory filings and performance report.
- Support the Manager, Compliance, in the development and delivery of training programs related to AML and regulatory compliance.
- Serve as the subject matter expert for AML legislation, including the Proceeds of Crime (Money Laundering) and Terrorist Financing Act (PCMLTFA), as well as non-AML regulatory compliance including CASL, FACTA, PIPEDA, CRS.
- Stay current on regulatory requirements, Verafin enhancements, and industry trends in the financial services industry, assessing their impact on customer organizations and compliance services.
Education and Experience
- Post-secondary certificate or diploma business program, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- A minimum of three years of Anti-Money Laundering (AML) compliance experience within a financial institution, preferably in the credit union sector.
- Practical experience using the Verafin platform for alert monitoring, investigations, case management, and regulatory reporting.
- Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist (CAMS) designation and/or Canadian Anti-Money Laundering Institute (CAMLI) certification is considered an asset.
Skills and Competencies
- Strong knowledge of the Proceeds of Crime (Money Laundering) and Terrorist Financing Act (PCMLTFA), FINTRAC requirements, and Canadian AML regulatory obligations.
- Sound understanding of regulatory compliance requirements, including PIPEDA, FACTA, CASL, and CRS.
- Strong analytical, investigative, and critical thinking skills, with the ability to assess complex issues and recommend practical solutions.
- Excellent written, oral and presentation skills, with proven ability to effectively work with diverse stakeholder groups and to interact with all levels of management and staff.
- Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and adapt to changing business needs.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining accuracy, confidentiality, and regulatory compliance.
- Commitment to continuous learning and staying current with regulatory, industry, and technology developments impacting AML and compliance functions.
Compensation & Benefits
This is a 12-month contract, full-time position at Salary Level S3 ($72,115 - $84,842). Atlantic Central offers a competitive benefits package and the opportunity to participate in the Performance Sharing Incentive Plan.
Location & Flexibility
This position offers the ability to work remotely and provides services to Atlantic Canada.
