Memorial University's newly established Centre for Artificial Intelligence (Al), launched in spring 2024. The Centre is seeking a Coordinator and Business Developer to help unlock its full potential and amplify its impact within the thriving high-tech ecosystem of St. John's and the broader province. Working directly with the Director of the Centre, the successful candidate will play a key role in shaping strategy, driving partnerships, and creating meaningful industry connections. The Centre supports three dynamic graduate programs-Master of Applied Science in Software Engineering, Master of Artificial Intelligence, and Master of Data Science- educating around 100 students annually. More than just an administrative role, this position invites innovation. The Coordinator will be encouraged to identify new growth avenues, spark collaborations, connect students with real-world opportunities, and help lead technical projects that push the boundaries of Al and data science in Canada's east coast innovation corridor.

The role will also work closely with Memorial's Centre for Analytics, Informatics, and Research, Memorial's High Performance Compute data center, one of Atlantic Canada's fastest computing environments, offering support and resources for data solutions across Atlantic Canada.

THE OPPORTUNITY

Reporting administratively to the Associate Director of the Hibernia and Hebron R&D Initiative (Memorial Research Initiatives and Services), the Coordinator will take on a dynamic and impactful role at the intersection of innovation, industry, and academia. This position is key to advancing the mission of the Centre for Artificial Intelligence by driving strategic initiatives, amplifying communications, and forging strong external business relationships across Newfoundland and Labrador's growing tech sector. Duties include connecting graduate students under the Centre for Al with local companies for cutting-edge internships and integrated learning opportunities; developing and launching student-focused support programs (e.g., career readiness); cultivating and expanding cross-university collaborations; managing relationships with external stakeholders, including funding agencies; developing new partnerships between industry and academia; supporting research and resourcing collaborations with partners; coordinating strategic initiatives and continuous improvement of Centre for Al programming; managing and optimizing the use of the Centre for Al space; providing key support to the activities of the Director of the Centre for Al; and performing other duties as required.

THE CANDIDATE

Experience (3-5 years) in technical or project management; completion of a master's degree in engineering, science, business administration, or organizational management is required; or an equivalent combination of experience and training may be considered. The ideal candidate will have experience in budget preparation, business strategy development, and external communications, as well as strong analytical and critical thinking skills. Excellent communication skills and the ability to work independently are essential. Experience in a research grants administration capacity and extensive knowledge of the Newfoundland and Labrador technology industry would be considered assets.

Research Initiatives and Services is a hybrid work-from-home unit.
