The opportunity:

We are currently looking to hire a Senior Accountant who will be a key member of the finance team for Grand HVAC Leasing, a leasing business operating in the US and Canada which is a fully owned subsidiary of Emera Inc, a TSX listed public company.

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Finance, and based at Emera Head office in Halifax, this is an exciting opportunity to support the broad financial operations by maintaining accurate financial records, ensuring compliance with accounting standards, and supporting key decision-making processes. You will work closely with the Senior Manager, Financial Reporting, to oversee month-end processes, financial reporting, and analysis, and contribute to continuous improvements in our finance operations.

Key Responsibilities

Providing, financial reporting for the US and Canada, which includes, but is not limited to:

  • Maintaining and analyzing lease schedules including preparing various journal entries for month end payment allocations, derecognitions, buyouts and write offs.
  • Preparing monthly US Sales Tax reports for various states, maintaining files and reporting to parent company.
  • Assist in preparing monthly financials reports, Journal entries for US and Canada including month end reports for parent company
  • Assisting internal and external auditors during required audits including federal, state, and provincial regulators.
  • Collaborating with other Emera departments to provide financial information on Tax and other matters.
  • Preparing other ad hoc analysis and reports as required by Senior Manager Finance/ Operations.

Relevant Qualifications

  • A bachelor's degree in business administration or commerce and have completed, or working toward completing, an accounting designation (CPA or equivalent)
  • Minimum of 3 years of financial accounting experience, knowledge of US GAAP, would be advantageous
  • Experience with financial reporting systems proficient in Excel and its various functions.
  • Meticulous approach with a strong quantitative, analytical, and organizational mindset
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline driven, team-focused environment, with the ability to handle multiple deliverables and work independently under tight deadlines.
  • Possesses a customer focused and is innovative, with the ability to identify and implement improved processes.
