DUTIES
Reporting to the Manager of Accessibility Services (Glenn Roy Blundon Centre), the Student Learning Accessibility Advisor (SLAA) is part of a multidisciplinary team of professionals. The SLAA coordinates the development, implementation, and assessment of comprehensive programs and services to support students with disabilities at Memorial University's St. John's Campus. The SLAA will support students registered with the Blundon Centre, as well as other stakeholder groups, in successfully transitioning to university. Duties include assisting with student aid grants, implementing appropriate academic and non-academic accommodations; liaising with course instructors, academic administrators and other staff on the effective implementation of academic accommodations; assisting students, faculty, and staff in using adaptive and assistive technology and specialized software; developing and facilitating educational programming; researching best practices in accessibility-related service provision; and performing other related duties as required. While the majority of the SLAA's work is completed during normal business hours, there may be periodic evening and weekend work throughout the academic year in an effort to support exam administration responsibilities within the Centre.
QUALIFICATIONS
Professional experience (minimum 2-3 years) in a related area, preferably with demonstrated experience coaching or counseling students with disabilities; completion of a master's degree in counseling, educational psychology, social work, disability studies, or any other postsecondary education in a related field is required; or an equivalent combination of experience and training may be considered. Expertise in mental health and mental illnesses, specific learning disorders, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), autism spectrum disorder (ASD), and related conditions is preferred. Exceptional communication skills, along with the ability to manage conflict and multiple priorities while maintaining a high degree of flexibility, are essential for this role. This position requires substantial critical and creative problem-solving ability. The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion; exceptional organizational acumen; experience with operational planning and assessment for continuous improvement; and proficiency with digital tools, resources, and technologies for the advancement of student learning, development, and success. Experience in accessibility-related service provision in a postsecondary educational environment, as well as knowledge of ClockWork Database Management System or similar case management software, will be considered assets. A Police Records Check with a Vulnerable Sector Query, from the local police authority will be required.
SALARY $64,361 - $87,763 per annum (Management and Professional)
