The Opportunity

Location: Halifax, Nova Scotia

We are currently looking for a Manager, Capital Accounting, to join our Corporate Capital Accounting team in a permanent position.

NS Power's Capital Accounting team is responsible for the accounting, financial reporting and analysis of NS Power's capital assets, valued at approximately $4.5 billion. Reporting to the Senior Manager, Capital Accounting, you will be responsible for overseeing the month end accounting and financial reporting process, the annual budget and quarterly forecast process, review of Capital regulatory filings, and leading a cross-functional team that supports NS Power's Capital investment program. This is a cross-functional role working with the Operations, Regulatory Affairs and Finance teams.

This position will appeal to individuals who have leadership experience, are comfortable with detailed analytical work and complex accounting issues, have strong quantitative skills, and are interested in contributing to achieving business results. This key position will supervise a team of employees and provide guidance and leadership to support the achievement of the team's goals and objectives.


Key elements of this role include:
  • Responsible for the accuracy and timely reporting of the Company's monthly Capital Accounting financial statement results
  • Responsible for monitoring and execution of internal SOX controls related to Capital Accounting, including liaising with internal/ external auditors
  • Review of monthly Capital Accounting financial results, including review of quarterly reporting for NS Power's financial statements and to the Board of Directors
  • Review of the annual financial budget and forecast for NS Power's capital investment program.
  • Review of a variety Capital regulatory filings, including review of NS Power's Annual Capital Expenditure Plan.
  • Leadership of a cross functional Capital Accounting team.

  • You must possess an undergraduate degree with a focus in Accounting or Finance and have a CPA designation with 7 years of related work experience, including experience leading and managing a team.
  • You must be detail-oriented, possess strong organizational skills and thrive in a deadline driven, team-focused environment. You are focused on building relationships and have strong leadership and interpersonal skills.
  • You must be comfortable with reviewing detailed analytical work and complex accounting issues, have strong quantitative skills.
  • You will also possess strong Excel skills (comfortable analyzing complex financial models, detailed spreadsheets and working with large quantities of data).
