We are currently looking for a Senior Corporate Accountant to join our Corporate Accounting Team on a permanent basis. Reporting to the Manager, Corporate Accounting, you will have the opportunity to support the end-to-end accounting and reporting of a wholly owned subsidiary of Emera Inc., as well as be a key contributor to the corporate accounting team at Emera inc.

As a Senior Corporate Accountant, you will:

  • Be responsible for accounting and financial reporting duties including, but not limited to:
  • Preparing and/or reviewing monthly journal entries and general ledger monitoring, including full working paper/audit file preparation, detailed account reconciliations and analysis;
  • Preparing monthly and quarterly financial statements and analyzing the financial results;
  • Monthly reporting of financial results to Senior Management;
  • Preparation of quarterly Board of Director materials; and
  • Assisting internal and external auditors during quarterly reviews and annual audits
  • Assist with preparation of semi-annual forecasts, annual budget and annual long-term forecast;
  • Support the preparation of regulatory reports and tax filings;
  • Be responsible for internal control over financial reporting in accordance with Emera's SOX program;
  • Contribute to other reoccurring and ad hoc accounting and reporting preparation and review for Emera Inc.;
  • Collaborate with other Emera departments to provide financial information; and
  • Prepare other ad hoc analysis and reports as required.

You bring maturity, confidence, and decision-making capability, along with enthusiasm and energy.

You recognize yourself in most of the following competencies, and possess the skills and experience listed below:

  • A bachelor's degree in Business Administration or Commerce with 4+ years of related work experience and have completed or working toward an accounting designation (CPA, or its predecessor CA, CMA or CGA);
  • Experience with financial reporting systems and Excel;
  • Knowledge of the gas and utility industry would be considered an asset but is not required;
  • Detail oriented and possesses strong quantitative, analytical, and organizational skills;
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline driven, team-focused environment, with the ability to handle multiple deliverables and work independently under tight deadlines;
  • Have a solid business acumen, is customer focused and innovative, with the ability to identify and implement improved processes.
