We are currently looking for a Senior Corporate Accountant to join our Corporate Accounting Team on a permanent basis. Reporting to the Manager, Corporate Accounting, you will have the opportunity to support the end-to-end accounting and reporting of a wholly owned subsidiary of Emera Inc., as well as be a key contributor to the corporate accounting team at Emera inc.
As a Senior Corporate Accountant, you will:
- Be responsible for accounting and financial reporting duties including, but not limited to:
- Preparing and/or reviewing monthly journal entries and general ledger monitoring, including full working paper/audit file preparation, detailed account reconciliations and analysis;
- Preparing monthly and quarterly financial statements and analyzing the financial results;
- Monthly reporting of financial results to Senior Management;
- Preparation of quarterly Board of Director materials; and
- Assisting internal and external auditors during quarterly reviews and annual audits
- Assist with preparation of semi-annual forecasts, annual budget and annual long-term forecast;
- Support the preparation of regulatory reports and tax filings;
- Be responsible for internal control over financial reporting in accordance with Emera's SOX program;
- Contribute to other reoccurring and ad hoc accounting and reporting preparation and review for Emera Inc.;
- Collaborate with other Emera departments to provide financial information; and
- Prepare other ad hoc analysis and reports as required.

You recognize yourself in most of the following competencies, and possess the skills and experience listed below:
- A bachelor's degree in Business Administration or Commerce with 4+ years of related work experience and have completed or working toward an accounting designation (CPA, or its predecessor CA, CMA or CGA);
- Experience with financial reporting systems and Excel;
- Knowledge of the gas and utility industry would be considered an asset but is not required;
- Detail oriented and possesses strong quantitative, analytical, and organizational skills;
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline driven, team-focused environment, with the ability to handle multiple deliverables and work independently under tight deadlines;
- Have a solid business acumen, is customer focused and innovative, with the ability to identify and implement improved processes.
