The OpportunityWe are currently seeking a Senior Metallurgist to join our Hydrometallurgy team in Sheridan Park, Mississauga.
This is a permanent onsite position.
As a Senior Metallurgist, you will work as part of the hydrometallurgy team, applying specialized knowledge and experience in science and technology (physical chemistry, electrochemistry, inorganic and organic chemistry, chemical engineering) to support technical excellence in Vale global operations with the focus on hydrometallurgy processes. Your experience and skill will allow you to plan and carry out technical investigation projects, by applying in-depth technical expertise in at least one area of science and technology, such as electrochemistry and electrometallurgy, to identify and demonstrate solutions to specific process metallurgy challenges in, and opportunities for, the operations; writes the reports and communicates key findings and recommendations.
Additionally, in this position you will:
- Plan, assemble required equipment, prepare necessary chemicals, and safely execute testwork at laboratory and mini-plant scale; report results and what they mean.
- Proceed with the implementation of specific results-driven recommendations and provide ongoing assistance to Operations when required. Maintain regular communication with key personnel (Operations, Process Tech, others) from Base Metals operations.
- Participate in process technical peer reviews of other process technical investigation programs.
- Maintain awareness of best-in-class process technology developments and make recommendations for assessment for potential adoption in Base Metals operations; develop and maintain network of contacts with technology and equipment vendors, engineering companies, universities, and other technical institutions.
Education:
- Undergraduate degree in relevant discipline is required, Graduate Degree (MSc or PhD) is preferred.
Experience:
- Minimum 5 years of experience in the field of, or in an area related to, hydrometallurgy or other industrial chemistry operations; ability to apply your knowledge in process fundamentals to sustain and improve industrial chemistry or hydrometallurgy operations
Skills:
- Strong teammate skills with ability to build and develop relationships

- Strong organizational, interpersonal, problem solving and analytical skills
- Hands-on experience with laboratory and mini-plant equipment
- Be willing to travel to operations and other locations as required.
