The Opportunity
We are currently seeking a Specialist, Insurance and Risk Management to join our Risk Management team in Toronto.
This is a permanent hybrid position.
As a Specialist, Insurance and Risk Management, you will support the development and implementation of comprehensive insurance strategies (e.g., property, liability, environmental, business interruption, marine cargo) to effectively cover the extensive risk profile of all VBML's operations, with a focus on Canada. Assist in structuring and managing operational risk engineering programs, collaborating with site teams to assess operational hazards and implement preventative measures. Your experience and skill will allow you to build and maintain strategic relationships with insurance brokers, underwriters, and third-party service providers to negotiate optimal terms and ensure efficient claim handling.
Additionally, in this position you will:
- Promote a strong risk culture across the organization, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives and embedding accountability at all levels.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to align strategies on risk reduction and transfer, ensuring they meet long-term goals.
- Assist in the development of KRIs, ensuring that risk monitoring systems provide actionable insights for executive decision-making.
- Support innovation by adopting advanced risk management technologies and integrating data analytics to enhance forecasting and reporting.
- Provide risk guidance during major organizational initiatives, acquisitions, and market expansions.
About You
Education:
- Undergraduate degree in Business, Commerce, or related field.
- Risk or Insurance Certification (CRM, ARM, CIP) is required.
Experience:
- Minimum 8 years in insurance & risk management or relevant experience.
Skills:
- A team player, autonomous and self-driven.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, both verbal and written.
- Determined problem solver with high level attention to details, strong analytical and critical thinking skills
- Solid time management skills and ability to prioritize workload in a changing environment and within tight deadlines
- Knowledge of insurance regulations and risk management.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
