Purpose
Contribute to the overall success of the Scotiabank global fixed income platform, by acting as a relationship manager, syndicate manager, project manager, and capital markets coverage officer while ensuring compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures. Work within the government finance franchise to secure new, profitable business as well as further develop existing client relationships in order to achieve sustainable revenue growth.
What You'll Do:

  • Act as the relationship manager for different levels of government debt issuers across Canada as it pertains to capital markets activities, as well as supporting the greater relationship between the Bank and these issuers. The role also includes acting as a relationship manager for selected pension funds.
  • Provide daily capital markets coverage, offer periodic analysis, and act in a leadership capacity for transaction execution and additional syndication procedures. Fully adhere within the compliance, trade supervision, and government finance set boundaries for proper deal reporting, file maintenance, allocation policy, and certain restrictions on information sharing.
  • Partner with sales and trading departments within compliance boundaries by providing updates and research where required.
  • Introduce and present merits of alternative funding options to our government client base, as it ties into the government finance desk strategy. This includes working closely with internal and external partners in offices outside of Canada.
  • Foster new and existing client relationships in addition to cross-selling existing relationships across other areas and product groups.
  • Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational risk, regulatory compliance risk, AML/ATF risk and conduct risk, including but not limited to responsibilities under the Operational Risk Management Framework, Regulatory Compliance Risk Management Framework, AML/ATF Global Handbook and the Guidelines for Business Conduct.
  • Builds a high performance environment and implements a people strategy that attracts, retains, develops and motivates their team by fostering an inclusive work environment and using a coaching mindset and behaviours; communicating vison/values/business strategy; and, managing succession and development planning for the team
  • Regularly engage in talent scout activities with a focus on diversity & inclusion


What You'll Bring:

  • Bachelor's degree
  • 5 years capital markets experience minimum
  • CFA, MBA is an asset
  • Knowledge of regulatory backdrop for capital markets is an asset
  • Experience with financial derivatives is an asset


Work Arrangement:
This position is currently an on-site role, with the expectation that you will work at least 4 days a week in the office. Please note that this is subject to change based on the needs of the business.
