The team:
Scotiabank's Global Technology Enterprise Platforms (GTEP) - Enterprise Data Lake (EDL) & Data Management Services is responsible for managing and supporting Scotiabank's Hadoop/Cloudera platforms covering Canada, Caribbean, Latin America (LATAM) and various other countries. This includes managing and implementing new technology, security patches and software deployment across the bank, as well as collaborating in the process of continuous improvement to the different subsidiaries under the direction of globalization and consolidation of applications and services.
The role:
Based on the work you will do & the access to data, as a condition of employment, you currently have, in good standing, the Canadian Federal "RELIABILITY" Security Clearance OR with the assistance from the bank, you are eligible to successfully apply for this type of federal security clearance status.
You will play a critical role to support and improve user experience for our Hadoop/Cloudera platforms and tools for the Canadian and Global business lines. You are responsible for deploying, monitoring, and supporting this environment, and directly working with developers, business users, and other related support teams. You will support all Hortonworks Data Platform (HDP)/Cloudera Data Platform (CDP) platform initiatives within GTEP, which encompasses multiple projects and environments with more than 100 servers and over 30+ software applications. You will also create test plans/test strategies + perform manual/automation testing. As an active collaborator on end-to-end projects, you will follow up with troubleshooting of any production issues reported and fix, if required, any further enhancement(s) and ensure working products are delivered with quality.
You are a part of a team that provides rotational on-call "pager" support.

- Must have strong development background on the Diyotta environment building complex, multi-stepped processes interacting with files and databases as well as calling external processes..
- Act as liaison between Architects, Business Leads and development teams and to own technical delivery.
- You can troubleshoot system capacity, bottlenecks, basics of memory, CPU, kernel, and storage. As well, you can perform configuration, troubleshooting and performance tuning of Java applications.
- You can architect ETL solutions using ETL tools on Hadoop and various relational and non-relational database environment
- You are rigorous, resourceful, adaptable with good attention to detail and strong project ownership

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role?
- You can demonstrate strong communication (verbal/written) skills. In addition, possessing good interpersonal skills to build relationships with internal and external business partners and vendors.
- You have at least 5+ years of hands-on technical working experience in supporting, deploying, and interconnecting data sources with Cloudera Data Platform (CDP) using Diyotta ETL tool and various technologies (e.g., Linux servers, monitoring) at an enterprise scale.
- You have at least 5+ years of hands-on technical working experience with general Operating System (OS) support on any Linux and/or flavour of UNIX OS.
- You are familiar with DevOps/Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) concepts and tools and can apply them in your daily tasks to improve execution and quality of service.
- You are familiar with networking, from a troubleshooting perspective, and can perform IP configuration.
- You are familiar with troubleshooting firewalls & load balancing.
- You possess a strong core foundation experience in fundamental software deployment technologies via the use of shell scripting, Python and/or Java.
- You possess superior problem solving and decision-making skills to resolve work issues with the ability to work under pressure in a dynamic environment.
- You have completed a post-secondary education in Computer Science, Engineering or a related technology-based major.
