The new Ambulatory Health Hub (AHH) will be located on Stavanger Drive, St John’s East. The AHH is approximately 95,000 square feet and will house NLHS Clinic and Diagnostic Services including Medicine, Surgery, Orthopedics, Urology, Ophthalmology, Audiology, TJAC, Bariatric, Preadmission, Pain, ECG, ECHO, Xray, Ultrasound, MRI and Blood Collection. This location will also house other NLHS Services (like the new Urgent Care Centre) as well as non- NLHS services (including a coffee shop, day care centre, community pharmacy etc.). NLHS staff will be given priority for available childcare spaces. There is free parking on site with designated area for staff parking. The AHH will be opening in Fall 2025. Job Summary
This position delivers specialty occupational therapy assessment, interventions, consultation and education in plastic surgery clinics, Day Surgery, Nursing Clinics as well as interventions for patients from plastics clinics requiring follow-up occupational therapy for the Ambulatory program. The patient population is mainly acute in nature and includes postoperative elective hand surgery (eg. Trigger finger, palmar fasciectomy); traumatic hand injuries (fractures and tendon/ligament/nerve injuries and repairs) as well as ambulatory burns. The caseload is high volume with a high turnover of patients. Work is performed independently in close collaboration with the burns and plastics team (Six plastic surgeons, one orthopedic surgeon, nurses and physiotherapist). The Clinical Occupational Therapist II provides mentorship and technical assistance for inpatient burns and for service provided for inpatient hand surgeries. Other clinical assignments may be required. The Clinical Occupational Therapist II is responsible for professional and clinical leadership/supervisory occupational therapy work. The Clinical Occupational Therapist II provides support, mentoring and orientation to members of the interdisciplinary team, support staff and clerical support under the direction of the division manager. They will also be responsible for participating in continuing education and sharing learnings with staff. The Occupational Therapist will be responsible to precept Occupational Therapy and Occupational Therapy Assistant students and offer other clinical education experience to students within Eastern Health. This position reports to the Division Manager, Access & Optimization, and maintains accountability to the Professional Practice Consultant for professional integrity and practice issues.

Regularly stands and walks when performing clinic activities and may drive to and from sites/homes within the region.
Regularly sits to perform administrative functions, observe or counsel clients. May also work in awkward or cramped positions at times.
Fine/finger precision work is required when working on the computer or using tools to adjust or repair equipment.
Hand tools are used to adjust on equipment and may require rapid physical movement and reflexes, as well as controlled movement. Gross motor skills and the use of heavy equipment are required when working with clients in performing therapeutic activities, or to move equipment.

Job Qualifications Graduate of a school or program of occupational therapy recognized by the board. Current licensure with the Newfoundland and Labrador Occupational Therapy Board is required. A minimum of three years of experience within the last five working as a Clinical Occupational Therapist in physical medicine is required including one year of experience in the treatment of acute hand injuries and hand splinting. Demonstrated knowledge in the assessment and treatment of hand injuries with advanced knowledge in plastics and splinting. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, with interprofessional team members, patients/residents/clients and their families in a one-to-one and group environment. Demonstrated effective written communication skills required for client documentation, report writing and professional communications Demonstrated ability to effectively translate and communicate knowledge in the specialized area of occupational therapy practice to others. Proven supervisory and leadership skills. Demonstrated ability to coach, mentor and train Clinical Occupational Therapists, Occupational Therapist Support Workers and students. Proven ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships as a member of an interprofessional team. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and effectively with an interdisciplinary team. Demonstrated ability to multi-task, work efficiently in a fast-paced environment and prioritize caseload and patient needs. Proven ability to assume professional responsibility for safe, ethical and effective practice. A satisfactory record of work performance is required. The successful applicant must be willing to complete professional development courses offered by CSHT (Canadian Society of Hand Therapists) or ASHT (American Society of Hand therapists) or similar organization (as approved by EH) at the first available opportunity.
