About the Role
As a Decision Support Analyst, you will be responsible for supporting, developing, and provisioning robust data and information products and solutions as it relates to the diverse services and programs provided by the provincial health system utilizing the Epic HIS.
The Business Intelligence Developer- Decision Support Analyst reports to the Manager of Operational and Business Analytics (HIS).
You will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following:
- Configuring and testing Epic-released and Foundation System content for all applications, including Reporting Workbench, SlicerDicer, Radar, Cogito SQL.
- Creating content to display Epic data from Chronicles, Clarity, and Caboodle.
- Writing SQL and configuring Radar settings for custom SQL metrics.
- Modifying existing reports, as necessary.
- Distributing analytics content to data consumers.
- Reviewing peer reports for validity.
- Working with subject matter experts to understand the needs of data consumers.
- Maintaining the Analytics Catalog and associated metadata records.
- Testing analytics build in a specified testing environment and volume testing in live environments.
- Work with end-users to define, execute and track test scenarios and ensure appropriate end user training.
- Review upgrade documentation related to Cogito features and determining how to implement the changes.
- Build and maintain Cubes, Extracts, SlicerDicer custom filters, Epic data in Caboodle.
- Coordinate and work closely with technical, data management, analytical and program subject matter experts to support development activities relating to data acquisition and use and develop data documentation (metadata) to facilitate integrated solutions.
- Facilitate data consultation meetings and workshops including multiple stakeholder groups to define and document requirements and drive consensus regarding data and reporting requirements.
- Assist with Reporting Workshop training sessions, in which end users learn advanced tools for data self-discovery.
- Work with stakeholders to understand and define workflows, business processes and information requirements, and translate into technical specifications.
- Provide subject matter expertise and collaborate with business, program and clinical managers to define and develop appropriate metrics, indicators, and performance measures.
- Provide advice and guidance in capturing, defining, validating, and interpreting diverse health system data.
- Prepare and provision data for use by various internal and external data user groups including integration of data with operational workflows and front-line systems.
- Provide subject matter expertise to support research, health system planning, performance, quality, and process improvement initiatives.
- Support data quality management by conducting data quality assessments and developing and executing action plans to address identified data quality issues in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.
About You
Your education and experience include:
- Undergraduate degree in a related field (e.g., Computer Science) combined with a minimum of three years’ experience in the field of decision support, analytics, business intelligence, data management, database design/development or closely related healthcare field of work (Demonstrated equivalencies may be considered).
- Demonstrated experience would include, but is not limited to:
- Building, iterating, and validating data models in an Oracle or SQL server environment.
- Use and support of any of the major BI suites (Cognos, Business Objects, etc.)
- Use and support of database query tools and technologies (SQL, ETL, data marts, etc.)
- Working with health system stakeholders to understand and capture data and information requirements.
- Working with health-related data or information systems (Meditech, CRMS, MIS, finance, EMR, pharmacy data, etc.)

- Willing to acquire Epic Certification; prerequisites, participate in Epic training/education sessions, complete self-assessments and successfully challenge the certification exam
