Drake International is currently hiring for our client, a leader in the development of North America's first full-scale carbon capture, utilization, and storage solution for the cement industry in Edmonton, AB. Starting in 2026, up to one million tonnes of carbon dioxide will be captured, transported by pipeline, and permanently sequestered in deep saline storage formations. This groundbreaking project will also feature a 120MW combined heat and power facility to provide necessary heat and electricity for the process, contributing to low-emission electricity for the grid.
We are seeking an Operations Manager for this innovative facility located at our client's Plant in Edmonton, AB. This pivotal role involves building, training, and leading the plant operations team while ensuring the facility design and construction adhere to the highest safety, operability, and reliability standards. The Operations Manager will be a key member of the project team, overseeing all phases of the project and serving as the plant's chief engineer.
What You'll Get to Do:
Review project criteria, guidelines, standards, and designs to align with plant operational requirements.
Provide expertise in operational aspects and participate in hazard/risk, reliability, and maintenance studies.
Lead the hiring process for the plant operations team.
Develop and implement operator training programs and competency verifications.
Collaborate with Health & Safety and team leaders to prioritize safety within the operation.
Establish plant permitting/lock-out tagout systems and maintain standard operating procedures.
Stay updated on Alberta Boiler Safety Association standards and their application.
Respond efficiently to facility challenges and devise effective remediation plans.
Who We're Looking For:
Minimum 15 years of experience in energy facility operations, including at least 5 years in a management role.
1st Class Power Engineer certification in Alberta is required.
Strong commitment to workplace safety.
Proven ability to build and maintain effective team relationships.
Comfort with ambiguity and technical complexity, coupled with adaptability.
Excellent interpersonal, teamwork, and organizational skills.
Exceptional communication abilities.
Competency in computer-based programs and tools.
Knowledge of large compressors, gas turbine/generators, and other relevant equipment is advantageous.
