Journeyperson Mechanic
SOUTHLAND is currently seeking a Journeyperson Mechanic to join our team of maintenance professionals. This role is responsible for servicing/repairing SOUTHLAND school buses in a safe, efficient, and effective manner. This position is not confined to shop activities as the Mechanic may be required to perform field work on down buses. Duties
- Ongoing maintenance/repair of buses
- Diagnosing equipment problems
- CVIP Inspections
- Respond to breakdowns
- Spring and winter maintenance
- Complete all documentation associated with equipment repairs
- Work with shop management to maintain schedules and priorities
- Follow SOUTHLAND procedures and guidelines
Requirements
- Journeyperson Ticket
- Own hand tools
- Fluent in written and spoken English
- 2 – 5 years related experience
- Valid driver's license (Class 2 or 3 considered an asset)
- CVIP (Commercial Vehicle Inspection Program) License considered an asset
- Exposure to working on diesel engines
- Analytical and troubleshooting skills
- Ability to comprehend/operate diagnostic and manual measuring tools, including micrometers, brake drum gauge, Ohmmeters, and AVR (Amps, Volts & Resistors)
- Computer proficiency
Remuneration
- Hourly rate - $34 – $38 per hour based on experience
- Bi-weekly pay period (every second Friday)
- Employee Benefits Plan (after 3-month probation)
- Group Registered Retirement Savings (RRSP) Plan (available after 12 months)
- Annual Tool and Boot Allowance - $750 (pro-rated from start date - available in last quarter of the year, and each subsequent year)
