JOB PURPOSE:

As a member of Fix Auto's production team, a prepper/painter will play a key role in ensuring the paint department runs efficiently and to the highest quality.

POSITION SUMMARY:

A prepper / painter is a part of the 3-person paint team. This includes but is not limited to, reviewing and following each repair order's work order and reporting any discrepancies to the production manager. They are also responsible for the vehicle preparation prior to painting, along with removing all tape and paper after painting is complete.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible to complete all repairs on work orders
  • Confirm all parts to be painted are present
  • Complete repairs in a quality and timely manner while following company standards
  • Identify and address to the Production Manager any missed damage or additional
  • Refinish operations needed
  • Collaborate effectively with the body department and Production Manager to achieve efficient workflow
  • Maintain a positive and cooperative attitude with fellow employees
  • Cover any openings to prevent dust entering the vehicle while being worked on
  • Sand, mask and prime in efficient manner, adhering to company and manufacture standards
  • Work with Production Manager to confirm priorities throughout the day
  • After painting, you are responsible for unmasking the vehicle and moving to the reassembly stalls or body techs bay
  • Polish any paint imperfections before moving the vehicle to the next department
  • Fill out and sign the QC checklist, ensuring it is followed and complete
  • Collaborate with painters to ensure a proper paint match
  • Maintain a clean and orderly production area throughout the day
  • Be a mentor to less experienced technicians

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Employees may be required to work in potentially hazardous environments requiring personal protective equipment
  • Employees may be exposed to dust, hazardous chemicals and high levels of noise
  • Employees may be exposed to uncomfortable work settings; may have long combinations of standing, crouching, or sitting

EDUCATION:

  • Completed first year apprenticeship in related field

EXPERIENCE

  • Experience as an auto body prepper
  • Experience working in the auto-body industry

SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE

  • Able to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing and read and interpret blueprints
  • Ability to work independently
  • Strong attention to detail and organization skills
