Morskate Manufacturing is a family-run structural steel manufacturer located in Ponoka, Alberta. Specializing in structural, agricultural and custom orders, we take pride in the ability to be adaptable and flexible when designing and building orders to meet the customers exact requirements.

Position Summary

Morskate Manufacturing is growing! We're adding 90,000+ sq. ft. to our facility and investing in new technology as we continue to expand. With this growth comes an exciting opportunity for a hands-on Inventory & Yard Coordinator to join our team.

This is an office and yard-based position suited to someone who enjoys working with materials, operating equipment, staying organized and being physically active throughout the day. Approximately 50% of this position is outdoors, working in our yard and receiving areas, with the remaining time spent indoors handling inventory, paperwork and computer-based tasks. You will be working around structural steel, components, supplies and other materials in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Reporting to the Procurement & Inventory Supervisor, you will be responsible for receiving, moving, organizing, counting and tracking materials to ensure the shop and projects have the materials they need when they need them.

If you have a warehouse, yard, shipping/receiving or material-handling background, enjoy hands-on work and take pride in keeping things organized, we want to hear from you!

Responsibilities

  • Receive and unload incoming materials, components, parts and other deliveries
  • Operate forklifts, overhead cranes and other mobile equipment to safely move materials
  • Inspect materials for damage or defects and verify against purchase orders or delivery slips.
  • Document and report discrepancies or damages to the appropriate departments.
  • Enter receiving data into inventory or ERP systems as well as cut off from the shop.
  • Accurately enter all incoming paperwork into our system and promptly hand it off to the relevant team members.
  • Label and organize materials in designated storage areas.
  • Communicate with procurement, quality control, and production departments.
  • Inform the purchaser of low inventory levels and assist with organizing and restocking materials in the yard.
  • Inform the purchaser of any backorder situations or missing items to ensure timely resolution and project continuity.
  • Manage yard inventory counts and stock rotation.
  • Maintain stock levels in vending machines for shop supplies and restock as needed.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of receiving areas.
  • Order material and parts under the control and supervision of Supervisor or Operations Manager.
  • Safe operation of overhead crane and mobile equipment for material movement.
  • Follow safety protocols and proper handling procedures for heavy or hazardous materials.
  • Will be required to work outside in various weather conditions.

This job description is not intended to be an all-inclusive list of duties. You may perform other related duties as assigned to meet the ongoing needs of the organization.

Requirements/Qualifications

  • Previous experience in receiving or warehouse operations, ideally in an industrial or steel setting
  • Ability to read packing slips, bills of lading, and purchase orders
  • Forklift and/or crane certification considered an asset
  • Basic computer skills; ERP or warehouse management system experience is a plus
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to perform physical work, including lifting, moving and handling materials
  • Comfortable working approximately 50% outdoors in varying weather conditions
  • Strong commitment to workplace safety
  • High school diploma or equivalent
