THE OPPORTUNITY:

Our client is a well-established Canadian contractor with a strong reputation for delivering major mechanical construction projects across the infrastructure sector. With a robust project pipeline and continued growth, they are looking to add an experienced Mechanical Estimator to their preconstruction team.

WHAT YOU'LL DO:

As a Mechanical Estimator, you'll be responsible for preparing accurate, competitive estimates and supporting the tendering process from opportunity identification through project handover. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Preparing detailed cost estimates for mechanical construction projects including labour, materials, equipment, subcontractors, and indirect costs.
  • Reviewing drawings, specifications, and contract documents to identify project requirements, risks, and opportunities.
  • Performing quantity take-offs and labour calculations.
  • Soliciting, evaluating, and leveling subcontractor and supplier quotations.
  • Preparing RFIs and clarifications during the bidding process.
  • Coordinating bid submissions, tender documentation, and pricing strategies.
  • Participating in site visits, pre-bid meetings, and post-tender reviews.
  • Supporting procurement activities and maintaining strong relationships with suppliers and subcontractors.
  • Assisting with project turnover by converting successful estimates into project budgets and handover packages.
  • Working closely with operations teams to support project execution, productivity tracking, change pricing, and claims when required.

WHAT YOU'LL BRING:

  • 4+ years of estimating experience with a mechanical contractor.
  • Experience estimating mechanical construction projects involving municipal, or water/wastewater infrastructure.
  • A diploma or degree in Mechanical Engineering, Construction, or related field.
  • Professional membership with organizations such as PEO, OACETT, or AACE.
  • Strong understanding of construction methods, estimating principles, and cost control.
  • Experience preparing quantity take-offs and developing complete bid packages.
  • Working knowledge of construction scheduling concepts (CPM).
  • Proficiency with estimating software such as Accubid, SmartBid, or similar platforms.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • The ability to manage multiple tenders while meeting critical deadlines.
